Utah sweeps national PTA AIDS ed awards Two Utah school PTA organizations or-ganizations received awards given for the Mountain States (Region Eight) by the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (PTA) honoring outstanding out-standing AIDS education projects on the local and school district level throughout the country. The two PTA's are Bingham High School PTA and Murray School District PTA Council. According to Scott Hess, Health Education Specialist, and Marcia Peterson, Specialist, AIDS Education Projects, Utah State Office of Education, the Utah projects were chosen for their exemplary incorporation of the State AIDS Curriculum Resource File into the broader context of sexual responsibility and utilization of large committees commit-tees with a wide diversity of parents and clergymen representing repre-senting different religious groups. The Bingham High School project integrates the State Cur Avoid construction "surprises" by calling Blue Stakes Center It's that time of year when construction begins and people get outside to work. That work often means digging. Whether the digging is for a major excavation, excava-tion, remodeling project, sprinkler system or fence post. It can bring you more than you bargained bar-gained for-you might oever underground un-derground utility lines or cables. Blue Stakes representatives repre-sentatives will come to the digging dig-ging site to mark-free of charge--the locations of buried utilities. The number of Salt Lake City is 532-6000. All other locations in Utah should call 1-800-662-4111. Utah Law requires that the Blue Stakes Center abe called at least two working days before breaking ground. The Center is open from 7:35 a.m. to 4:25 p.m., Local teachers to study space science The NASA Space Mobile, a training lab to help teachers become be-come proficient in the teaching of space science, is coming for local teachers on Thursday, July 6. The training program is being co-sponsored co-sponsored by the Hansen Planetarium and Alpine, Provo, and Nebo School Districts. During the half-day sessions, teachers will Btudy the moon and see actual lunar samples. They will become certified by NASA to handle lunar samples, and will be able to order moon rocks for students stu-dents to study in the classroom. Videos, demonstrations, and lectures lec-tures about astronomy and space science will be presented during the classes. Lunar certification riculum for AIDs with the Teen Aid Program. The Murray School District uses a similar program called Sex Respect. In both instances, in-stances, efforts on the senior high level were coordinated with those in junior highs that feed students into Bingham High and Murray High. Murray's PTA Council president is Kathy Faeber and the Regional PTA Director for Murray is MaryAnn Kirk. The Bingham High PTA President is Brenda Brinkerhoff. As a result of this recognition, written information about Bingham Bin-gham High and Murray District's AIDS Education programs will be disseminated to other public schools and school systems throughout the nation. "I was a building contractor prior to being elected governor, and I know the confusion, expense ex-pense and inconvenience caused when a utility line is severed or damaged," he said.
