Show Open house to honor Douglas E. Nicholes Douglas E. Nicholes, principal at Cascade Elementary, will retire at the end of this school year. An Open House has been planned for Thursday, Thur-sday, May 21, 1987, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Cascade School (160 North 800 East, Orem ) to honor him. Mr. Nicholes has been involved in public education for 32 years. He has served as principal at many schools in the Alpine School District, including Cedar Valley, Alpine, Harrington, American Fork Junior High, Forbes, Barratt, and Cascade. Each school has had outstanding programs while he has been principal. prin-cipal. At the American Fork Junior High he organized the "Junior Patriot" Chorus. He has organized special programs to honor Presidents, Day, Grandparents Day, Professional, Profes-sional, Government, Business and Trades Days. Cramer will be honored at an open house given by the Orem Elementary staff and PTA on Wednesday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Orem Elementary, 450 West 400 South. All former students, parents, patrons and fellow educators are invited in-vited to attend. Mr. Cramer is retiring after 34 years in education. He worked for the Emery County and Alpine School Districts. He received his Bachelors Degree from Utah State University in Animal Husbandry and Agronomy and his Masters Degree from Brigham Young Univesity in Education Educa-tion Administration. Mr. Cramer taught in Cleveland, Greenwood, Hillcrest, Cascade, and Northridge Elementary Schools. He has been principal of Shelley Elementary Elemen-tary and Orem Elementary. Delile has been married 38 years to Doris Mae Erickson and is father of 5 children and grandfather of 17. lEaiWi mmtitI JM IM IfT II I III DONNA B. ELDER Donna Elder announces retirement Donna B. Elder will retire after 25 and a half years of teaching. She has taught 22 years at Cherry Hill School in first grade. Prior to coming to Cherry Hill she taught 5th grade in Kamas for a year, two years at Hillcrest Elementary in the 2nd grade and a half year in 3rd grade at Sharon Elementary. Mrs. Elder is known as a dedicated teacher, loving and touching the lives of more than 735 students. She will be honored at an open house to be held Tuesday, May 19, 1987 from 6 :30 to 8 p.m. at Cherry Hill School. Students, parents and friends are invited to attend. Mrs. Elder has taught for the following administrators: Mrs. Elwood Baxter, Mrs. Laddie Russell, Mr. Lyle Tregaskis, Fenton Prince, Mr. Richard Robins, Mr. Paul Hansen, Han-sen, Mrs. Janet Spencer, and Mr. Darrell Jensen. She is married to Lorenzo D. Elder. They have two children, Pamely Naugle and Steven Elder. They have two grandchildren. Mrs. Elder was born in Marion, Summit County, Utah. She attended school in Kamas, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School and from Brighamjoung University. DOUGLAS E. NICHOLES students to be involved in foreign language, strings, and chorus programs. He is the principal of a Brigham Young University Partnership Partner-ship School and a Utah Arts in Education Model Site. Cascade is a Young Astronauts School with all students enrolled as members. For his efforts Doug has been recognized by the Boy Scouts of America, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Utah Association of Elementary School Principals, KSL Radio, Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers, Utah Arts Council and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Mr. Nicholes can call each student by name and is truly their friend and advocate. He will be missed by all. Friends and students of Mr. Nicholes are cordially invited to the Open House. Eloise Robins has been an asset to the teaching profession for 38 years. She started her teaching career at Bingham Canyon in the Jordan School District. She then transferred to the Utah County area and taught at Sharon, Page, West-more, West-more, Edgemont, and has spent the past 20 years at Cascade Elementary in Orem. She has received numerous awards for her dedicated service in the field of education. In 1969 KSL chose her to be "Teacher of the Day," in 1971 she received the "Meritorious Service Award to Mental Health in Utah County," and in 1977 she was nominated "Teacher of the Year" for theStateofUtah. Eloise has filled her life with service ser-vice to others. She has been involved in helping the needy people in Utah. County as well as in Mexico and Central Cen-tral America. She has helped build in Bolivia by collecting and recycling newspapers, and has given many hours of service to the State Hospital. She also participates in Swiss Days projects in Midway. All friends and students are invited. Local AARP coordinator attends conferences Vera B. Nielsen, State Coordinator Coor-dinator for the National Retired Teachers Division of the AARP, attended at-tended two conferences in Washington D.C. from May 3 to 7. The first was the Health Care Campaign Leadership Conference. Over 250 volunteers from all the states attended. The sessions were presided over by John Denning, president presi-dent of the AARP and conducted by Barbara Herzog, director of the National Na-tional Health Care Campaign. Tuesday was spent on Capital Hill with each of the representatives from the states visiting the offices of their state senators to present information and urge support for access and adequate ade-quate care for all citizens but particularly par-ticularly for the older Americans. Cyril Brickfield, executive director of the 25 million member organization, was in charge of the Congressional Briefing in the Dirksen Auditorium where first aid kits for Medicaid and Medicare were distributed to all participants par-ticipants to take to their state senators, stressing particularly John Iverson to celebrate 80th birthday On Saturday, May 16 an open house will be given to honor John Glenroy Iverson in commemoration of his 80th birthday. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to renew old friendships and help celebrate this milestone in John's life. The open house will be from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Manila Stake Center (2nd and 4th Ward) 1800 N. 100 E. (Canyon Road ) Pleasant Grove. John Iverson was born May 18, 1907 in Manila to Alma N. and Sarah Ann Tuckett Iverson, the youngest of ten children. Most of his life has been spent in Manila where he has touched the lives of over 200 Boy Scouts. He has received the Silver Beaver award in recognition of his dedication to the Scouting program. He worked at the Geneva Steel Plant starting as a caarpenter. He was an electrician in the maintenance department for 28 years. He retired in 1972. John has been active in the retirement group at Geneva. He has also been active in the Senior Citizen group in Pleasant Grove where he legislation for catastrophic coverage for all Americans. There was general agreement at the briefing that "This is going to be the year for health care legislation," said Nielsen. The second converence was a workshop for all NRTA Coordinators in the nation. It was entitled "New Directions, New Choices" and focused focus-ed on techniques for encouraging educators over the age of 50 to become affiliated with the NRTA Division. Pre-Retirement is a very important issue and needs to be addressed ad-dressed before the actual retirement from their educational profession, and it asks the question, "After the Classroom, What?" I I JOHN G. IVERSON served as president for a number of years. John's first marriage was to Zella Ford, who died before their first child was born.. He then married Melba Keller, who was the mother of his seven children. Those children are: Johnny M. of Highland; Mrs. Eldon (Jane) Huntsman of Alpine; Ronald K. of Aurora, Colorado; Mrs. Milton (Charmane) Riggs of Laguna Hills, California; Grant C. of American Fork; Pamela Tidwell of Woods Cross and Carole Wiscombe of " Orem. Melba died in 1953 of heart disease. John married Alice Mott Rawlings of Provo in 1965. She is the mother of four daughters Mrs. Rodney Rod-ney (Colleen) Raven of Payson, Mrs. Lynn (Marie) Slight of Duchesne, Mrs. Merlin (Janice) Harrison of West Jordan and Diane Rawlings, who died at a young age. John and Alice have spent the past 11 years doing hours of temple work. The number of names completed exceed 165,000. John would love to visit with all his old friends and relatives.
