Auto-Pedestrian Accidents Up Primary Children's Emergency Room is experiencing ex-periencing an increase in young victims of pedestrian-auto accidents which comes each year with the good weather. Almost 20 percent of Utah's auto fatalities in 1979 were auto-pedestrian, making it the worst year for pedestrian deaths in Utah's history. The majority of pedestrian-auto pedestrian-auto accidents occur in urban areas along the Wasatch Front. Parents are advised to remain outside with two- and three-year-olds who are not in a fenced yard. Tricycles and other riding toys should be used only on sidewalks (driveways (drive-ways are especially hazardous). hazar-dous). Children three- to six-years-old should not be allowed to bicycle on the street. Red Cross Sets Swim-A-Cross The Central Utah Chapter of the American NationalRedCross will sponsor spon-sor its firstannualSwim-A-Cross June 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. The Swim-A-Cross will involve youth from the Utah County area who wish to participate by pledging to swim a number of laps, and who have solicited pledges from their friends and family for each lap they swim. Anyone wishing to take part may obtain ob-tain application forms, sponsor sheets, and further instructions at the Red Cross office at 8G5N. 200 W., Provo, or at any of the pools which will be participating: American Fork Municipal Pool, Provo Municipal Indoor Pool, Orem Recreation Center, or Spring-ville Spring-ville Municipal Indoor Pool. There will be prizes awarded for those who. hays the greatest amount of pledges, along with Swim-A-Cross T-shirts for each swimmer who has $25 or more in pledges. The prizes include new bicycles, bi-cycles, tennis racquet, $5, $10, and $15 gift certificates, music books, and movie passes, most of which have been donated by local merchants. Curt Brinkman, wheelchair athlete who holds many athletic records, and who recently came in first place in the wheelchair division on the famous Boston Marathon, is honorary chairman chair-man for the event. Local government officials have been very supportive of the Swim-A-Cross, proclaiming June 14 as American Red Cross Swim-A-Cross Day for Utah County. Funds raised by the Swim-A-Cross will benefit local 'disaster assistance and preparedness, health and safety instructional programs, service to the mentally and physically impaired, and service to the elderly in Utah County.
