Orem-Geneva Times -June 5, 1980 R Ay i Opens 1980S The Road, - Winter, is a charming bit of Americana, captured in a lithograph by Currier & Ives, printmakers to America. This will be one of the 44 selections included in the 1980 Utah Pageant of the Arts production, beginning June 6 at American Fork. Pageant Of The flri eason School Theater, except Sunday and July 4, concluding July 11. This year's production offers several "firsts," including the largest cast ever - 122 people nightly - and requires a triple cast. The largest number num-ber of pieces - 44 separate selections -also offers a wide range of interest for art buffs and patrons of long standing or those coming for the first time. In addition, some 50 volunteers are required re-quired behind the scenes to assist with staging, lighting, makeup, costuming, headgear and casting. More than 450 cast members applied for the volunteer cast slots, with those selected ranging from barely school age to 83-years-old. Cast members "perform" for ten nights, learning no lines and remaining motionless in their stage set for one or -i-- - - . ffr FEDERAL'S il' American Fork's famous Utah Pageant of the Arts, which presents re-productions of masterpieces of sculpture and painting selections, will open a new season on Friday. Described by critic's as "an exciting new kind of theater," the production includes many striking new selections, as well as a few favorites from past productions, repeated to meet audience demand. Now in the eighth year, Utah Pageant of the Arts creates "living pictures" by bringing art pieces to life with living cast members. A dramatic tableau takes the audience back to the time of the great masters or to the studio of the artist of today. A balance of contemporary and traditional tra-ditional art works, combining the creativity crea-tivity of centuries, make up the new program, according to directors David O. Brockbank and Bill Kirkpatrick. The show will be presented nightly at 8 p.m. at American Fork High , Contest Begins Orem residents are invited to enter the 1980 Orem Beautification Contest and assist in making Orem a more beautiful and clean city. Sponsored Spon-sored by the Orem City Beautification Committee, Com-mittee, the purpose of the program is to encourage en-courage landscape improvements throughout . the city. There are two entry dassications: home and business. Select as a project anything that will'definitely improve the landscape appearance of your home or business. . Deadline for entries is July 31, anj judging will be the week of August 11 through 16. A five member panel of judges, citizens of Orem, will visit each project. They will size up the over-all appearance and look for indications of good ' planning. They will consider the selection, group ing, and placement of plant materials. Awards will be presented at the City Center Aug. 26. A first and second price, of $75 and $50, respectively, will be awarded in each of the two classifications.
