Show Local Pointer Exhibits Orem Friends In Orem City Library Each year the Kiwanis club presents the "Hope of America" award to an outstanding girl and an outstanding boy in each sixth grade class. May ), 1979. at University Medical Tenter, Salt Lake City of cystic-'ibrosis. cystic-'ibrosis. Miss Cross was born to Jerry Blaine and Gladys Colleen Bascom Cross, on Nov. 20. 1962, in Vernal. She moved to Orem in 1964 with her family, and attended Westmore School. The family later moved to Provo where Miss Cross attended Provost School. She attended Dixon Junior High School and was a sophomore at Provo High School at the time of her death. She was a member of the Provo 27th LDS Ward. Miss Cross is survived by her parents; one brother and one sister, Gary Wayne Cross, Los Angeles, and Julie Lowe. Orem; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth E. Cross, Orem; Mrs. Gladys Bascom. He was born in Provo on Sept. 5, 1978 to Byron and Jenny Cheers Burke, 22 N 1200 W. No. 131, Orem. Survivors include his parents; one sister. Janae April Burke; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon A. Paramedics removed the lead from his lip at the scene, and there were nofurtherproblems. Orem Tennis Team Places First In Region Orem High SchoolTen-nis SchoolTen-nis Team came out shining shin-ing ; with the Region 'Tournament title. The team over - rided Alta, Bingham, Granger, Hill-crest, Hill-crest, and . Kearns, at Kearns High School on May 10 and May 11. Members of the team that participated were Stuart Stilson who placed third in the 1st singles; Bret Carter, who placed 3rd in the 2nd singles, Mark Wolfgramm, who placed 3rd in the 3rd singles, sin-gles, Dave Trane and Doug Jensen, who finished fin-ished in the doubles, and Russ Rowley and Tim Chatterly who placed second se-cond in the 2nd doubles. Orem High Tennis Coach Steve Baugh was pleased with his teams performance. Paintings by Cheryl Lant are now on display in the Orem library. A resident of Orem whose husband, John, taught seminary at Orem High for eight years before going to work for BYU, Cheryl began painting five years ago. At that time, she allowed a long-held long-held interest in painting to take root in her crowded crowd-ed family - centered schedule by attending a painting class in the Orem Or-em Community School program. Taught by Frederick Denys, the class nurtured an interest planted in Cheryl's mind by the examples ex-amples of Tessa Clark her grandmother, and her great - grandmother Artemesia Redd Rom-ney, Rom-ney, both of whom were artists. Their achievements achieve-ments and Denys's instruction in-struction combined to start her painting. Cheryl, Cher-yl, who is the daughter of Verl and Vivian Clark of Provo, has managed to keep steadily at it since then, despite the responsibility respon-sibility of caring for eight children - and a husband. Most of the paintings are landscapes, done to a small scale with a fine brush on masonite board - a technique that yields matte - finish miniatures clearly visible visi-ble from a distance which grow in detail as one approaches ap-proaches them, andkind-ly andkind-ly reward close study. This clarity, Cheryl t claims, is a benefit of not painting from nature, where flies get in the paints and distract with their noise from the close work at hand. Mrs. G. Dale Larsen Orem-Geneva Times told of her two months spent in Arizona and Nevada where many eventful things happened to them. They were accompanied ac-companied by two other trailers.
