This constitutes the entire graduating class in drafting and design at Utah Tech this year, according to Douglas Jorgensen, department head. Eight of the 21 are already working, one starting as early as last December, electing to take jobs when they were offered instead of going on to graduation on May 31. The balance will receive re-ceive their associate degrees at graduation and then begin work. Starting salary for the group will average about $13,800 annually, said Mr. Jorgensen, with some considerably higher. high-er. About half of the graduating class have secured se-cured jobs in Utah, with the rest working out of state as far away as Spokane, Spo-kane, Wash., or California. Califor-nia. Two or three of the 21 have not yet taken specific spe-cific jobs, said the department de-partment head, but are still pondering which one they will take from several firm offers. Some students have had up to six offers, he said. Drafting and design workers prepare de -tailed plans for architects, archi-tects, engineers, surveyors survey-ors and builders. They are taught their craft at Utah Tech by a staff of six professionals in the field, including Mr.Jor- gensen, Russell Black, Rux Plott, Steven Trane and William Clapp at present, with one post vacant and soon to be filled. Mike Lee, a member mem-ber of the faculty, left his post recently for a job in private industry paying him more than the college was able to do, said Mr. Jorgensen.
