Orem-Provo Tennis Teams Clash Today The undefeated tennis team of Orem High has had some trouble getting to play matches on the outdoor courts this spring, but they shouldn't have much trouble keeping their record clean today when they travel to Provo for a match with the crosstown rival at 3:30 p.m. Coach Steve Baugh reported that Provo is having a 'down year in tennis and that the Tigers Tig-ers shouldn't have any trouble in keeping their record clean. The Tigers play makeup match with Kearns at Orem on Monday, then host Hillcrest on Tuesday. The team hosted Manti yesterday. Rated among the top three or four teams in the state again this year, the Tigers have shut out every team they have played, 5-0. In action last week, as limited as it was because of weather, the Tigers took a second in the doubles team competition at the BYU Invitational when seniors Joel DeRoest and Ron Jensen, lost in the finals to .Olympus' Steve Day and Brad Gordon, 6-3, Soccer Teams Plan Games Orem High's number one ranked ran-ked soccer team hosts the Murray Mur-ray Spartans today at 4p.m. and then rival Provo tomorrow at the same time on the field just north of the football stadium. Coach Garlan Fitzgaarald reported re-ported that both games will be tough but the Tigers are "up' for the pair and wmi to retain their undefeate and number one ranking in the state. Their record is 8-0-1, with the tie coming against Payaon. These two games close out the season. Quarter-finals will be play?d next week but sites were not determined at press time. Semifinals Semi-finals will be held May 13, followed fol-lowed by the state championship at BYU May 16. Orem won a sweet victory over Payson, 7-0 last Friday, avenging a 1-1 tie earlier in the season. The game was played in about two inches of snow at Payson but that didn't seem to bother the aggressive play of the Tigers. Proving that 1-1 tie a fluke, the Tigers were tenacious onde-fense onde-fense allowing only a few shots at the goal. Orem had scores from Eric Hundley, left-wing forward, four; Kevin Hall, right-wing right-wing forward, two; Garth Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, center forward replacing replac-ing the injured Dave Hardy, one. Against Kearns last Thursday on a wind-swept field at Kearns, the Tigers came away with a 2-0 victory and completely dominated dom-inated the entire game--although the score doesn't seem that way. Wind blowing across the field prevented many shots from going into the net. Kearns was held to only three shots to Orem goalie, while Hall and Chris-tensen Chris-tensen each scored for the Tigers to get the victory. Shaw Play To Be Shown George Bernard Shaw's "Candida" will be Brigham Young University's first stage production produc-tion of the spring term. Directed by Walt Berry, a graduate student in theater majoring maj-oring in directing, the show will run May 8-10 and 13-17 at 8 p.m. in the Margetts Arena Theater of the Harris Fine Arts Center, with a special family matinee at 4:30 p.m. on May 12. '-6 tiebreaker. The pair from Olympus is considered among the top 10 players in the state and were challenged all the way by the Orem duo. This was the first time that a doubles team made it to the BYU finals since Alan Cramer and the late Tom Brings did in 1972. DeRoest and Jensen defeated players from Layton in the semifinals, semi-finals, 6-1, 6-1, and defeated Jensen and Morris from Hill-crest Hill-crest 8-0 in the quarter-finals. The Orem duo won two other pro-set matches 8-0 to get to the quarter-finals which had to be played because rain forced the tourney inside the BYU tennis" stadium and matches had to be cut down. Bad Weather Hampers Play Of Baseball Winter-like weather has prevented pre-vented the Orem High School baseball teatn front getting'anjrj games within the past week--, but, weather permitting, theTig-ers theTig-ers will play against rival Provo Pro-vo today at 4 p.m. in Provo's North Park and then host Hill-crest Hill-crest next Tuesday at 4 p.m. at City Park. The young team of Coach Dick Belliston, playing only three seniors sen-iors at times, has yet to win a league game but all of their first-round losses in the best league in the state have beenclose games. Brighton, a team that came from behind to edge Orem April 18, took over first place in the Region Four standings by beating Hillcrest last week. Orem's game with Kearns last Friday was rained out and Coach Belliston hoped to schedule it yesterday to avoid playing the game Monday because of the tough Hillcrest game Tuesday.
