Orem Sr. Citizens Schedule Events Orem Senior Citizens will attend at-tend the Governor's Conference of Aging today at the Salt Lake Palace, and so there will be no activities held for Senior Citi- Officers Explain Ever see two or three police patrol cars parked at a local resturant? Did you wonder why they were there and not on patrol? pat-rol? Seeing patrol cars in the situation sit-uation previously mentioned as well as seeing them used by an officer to take his family to a movie ,Church, or shopping, is a common occurance inOrenu However, it just didn't happen that way. The "car per omcer concept' is a well-defined program pro-gram designed to increase the visibility of our police department. depart-ment. Rather than have the city parking lot filled with patrol cars, the city elected to have the four patrol cars on duty at any one time, there may be three or four off-duty cars moving down citv streets, diving the im pression there are more cars on duty. Actually in case of an emergency, these off-duty officers and cars are called to duty very easily because the off-duty off-duty officer is in constant contact con-tact with the police dispatcher when using the patrol car. This program has greatly increased in-creased the visibility of the police po-lice department without the hiring of additional personnel. The program also has reduced the maintenance problem often encountered when a car is kept running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each officer is responsible for maintaining his own car, consequently, con-sequently, the cars get better than average care. The patrol car is an essential piece of the officers equipment and must be in top shape in order for hiin to perform his duty properly pro-perly and efficiently. The next time you see an officer offi-cer using his patrol car while off-duty, just think, If I needed assistance, it isn't far away. Police Program In Full Swing Effective toady, May 1, the familiar sight of an Orem Police Po-lice officer dressed in a brown uniform will become a thing of the past. May I is the date that the all-blue uniform will become the standard dress for all Orem City police officers. The change in uniforms has a dual purpose, not the least of which is a reduction in the cost of uniform apparel to theUndi-r yidual, officer. The other most evident result of the uniform change will be the increased visibility vi-sibility of the police officer. Many cities have gone to the all-blue uniform and have found the change to be a very practical practi-cal one. zens. The group's harmonica band will perform at the conference. On every third Wednesday of the month, a blood pressure clinic clin-ic is held for all Senior Citizens. Citi-zens.
