Show Open House To Honor Dahlia Walker The family of Mrs. Dahlia R. Walker extend an Invitation toall friends and relatives to attend an open house in honor of their mother's 80th birthday, October 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., at her home, 170 North 2nd East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Mrs. Walker was born and raised in Pleasant Grove. She married Lawrence R. Walker in 1909. He passed away in 1954. The first years of her married life were spent in Lindon, after which the family moved to Vineyard Vine-yard for a short time. In 1947, they moved to Pleasant Grove where she has resided since. Youth and their problems have always been of great concern to her. Mrs. Walker is loved by old and young alike for her youthful youth-ful spirit and love of life. The young people who have sought her counsel, cherish the advice they have received from her, Mrs,, Walker was chosen Pleasant Grove Mother of the Year in 1963 for her many fine attributes and the shining example she has set for her family and others. She has always been active in church activities, giving generously of her time, means and talents. Her grandchildren adore her and love to hear the stories she tells 'of her early youth. Newly elected president Mrs. Merlin(Edith)Manningpre-sided. Merlin(Edith)Manningpre-sided. The club theme for the year, "Our Silver Year" was presented in commemoration of the club's 25th anniversary. New club booklets book-lets were distributed. Mrs. Robert Peper of Spring-ville Spring-ville was a special guest and presented her collection of 75 miniature hats of the century. Her collection also included tiny dolls dressed to suit the hats. Mrs. Peper was a milliner for 14 years in Los Angeles where she designed hats for a galaxy of stars. She made her first historical hat when she joined a doll club in Stockton, Calif. Her hat collection reflects the changing tastes of women's fashion in hats. Mrs. Peper fashions her hats by making her own frames and putting them together. to-gether. All of her creations are made by hand. Library Joins Book Service In order to better serve the people of Orem, the City Library has now subscribed to the McNoughton Book Plan whereby new books will be available as soon as they are published. Thurman, Thur-man, son of Doctor and Mrs. Joe B. Thurman of 1425 S. State, Orem, Utah, Is among the 821 cadets who have entered their Junior year at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Cadet Thurman will serve during dur-ing the fall term as a flight sergeant with the rank of cadet master sergeant. During the past summer, Cadet Thurman served as an instructor in a rigorous basic training course for the academy's Incoming Incom-ing freshman class. Stout, Serviceman Receives Bronze Star U.S. ARMY, VIETNAM -Army Sergeant Kennet B. Martinez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delfido Y. Martinez, 164 N. 1000 E., Orem, Utah, recently received the Bronze Star Medal during ceremonies cere-monies in Vietnam. He was presented the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himself through meritorious service ser-vice in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. The medal, adopted in 1944, recognizes outstanding achievement. Sergeant Martinez received the award while assigned as a motor sergeant with Headquarters Battery, Bat-tery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Artillery, Artil-lery, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile). He entered the Army in February Feb-ruary 1969, completed basic training at Ft. Ord, Calif., and was last stationed at FUBelvoir, Va.
