An afternoon program was held at the school with special tributes given by students and faculty members in honor of Mrs. MacDonald's service. A hugh banner reading "MacDonald's Kitchen" labeled the lunchroom service windows. Friday, May 9, 1969, was declared de-clared McDonald Day at Sharon Elementary School, according to Jay B. Sargent, principal. Mrs. Edna McDonald, wife of Lyle M. McDonald, well-known Orem resident, has been employed em-ployed at Alpine School District for the past ten years in the school lunch program and continuously con-tinuously at Sharon for the past eight years. She will retire at the end of this school year. A " Mrs. McDonald is loved by all levels of cholesterol, overweight, excessive eating, too little exercise, ex-ercise, diabetes, excessive cigarette cig-arette smoking, tensions and stresses and heredity. If you are beset by any one of them, your risk of a premature heart - attack is boosted two to six times above the risk of the person free from such a burden. With a combination of factors, your risk is far greater. A man's chances of having a heart attack before age 65. are only about 1 in 20 to 1 in 50 if he has normal weight, normal blood pressure, average or low levels of blood cholesterol, no diabetes, is not a heavy cigarette cigar-ette smoker js moderately active, has a normal electrocardiogram, and has no damage to his kidneys kid-neys or thyroid gland. YOU CAN DO SOMETHING You can do something about each of these risks. You can plan to enjoy a longer life. With diet, or diet combined with drugs you can control high blood pressure and diabetes, reducing re-ducing their danger. The cigarette smoker who quits his habit finds his risk falling toward that of the non-smoker. The obese man who reduces begins paying the standard rate for life insurance, instead of an extra fee. The amount of cholesterol in the bloodstream can be reduced through moderate changes in what we eat. We have, now, a very solid foundation of scientific knowledge from which to fight back the toll of premature heart attacks and strokes, especially among the middle-aged. We have strong prospects of saving hundreds of thousands of lives, and adding 10 to 20 years to our lives. There is no germ or bug that causes heart attacks. Its causes involve the way we've been living.
