By Christensen-Stilsen One of the greatest accomplishments accom-plishments a track competitor :an make is to participate in the National Collegiate Track and Field Championships. Gary Thacker, now running for the BYU, has qualified inboththelOO and 220 yard dashes. At the University Uni-versity of Texas at El Paso earlier ear-lier this season Gary ran the 100 in 9.5 and the 220 in 21.2. The time required to qualify in each event is 9.6 and 21.3. Thacker has been a consistant winner for BYU all year. His most recent victory was at the Beehive Invitational meet in Salt Lake City where he won the 220 with a time of 21.4 and placed third in the 100. His senior year at Orem High Gary was a triple winner in the state meet, as well as nearly every other meet during the year, leading Orem to the 1962 state championship for the second year in a row. He won the 100 in time 9.6 but an aiding wind prevented it from being a record. He also won the 220 yard dash and jumped jump-ed 22 feet 8 inches to win the long jump. Thacker is without doubt the most outstanding trackman track-man ever to wear the blue and gold of Orem High and perhaps one of the best athletes they have ever produced. After high school, Gary went to the BYU for one year, then went on a mission, then into the military service. He has another year of eligibility left in college. BYU coach, Clarence Robinson is happy hap-py for that. SELECTIVE SERVICE ANSWERS QUESTIONS Q. Can anyone other than a registrant appeal a local board classification? A. Yes.
