Show Spring Camporee Is Big Success The annual Spring Camporee of the Squaw Peak Scout District was held Friday and Saturday, May 10th and 11th, 1968, at the Burreston Pond Reserve, located south of Mona, Utah. Highlighting Highlight-ing this annual event was the theme "Skills and Adventure. Capping the Friday check-in were the evening fireside programs. pro-grams. Impressive firelighting ceremonies by the Order of the Arrow preceded each fireside program. Skits, talent, fun and songs proved to be fitting highlights high-lights of these programs. Saturday, May 11th, events began be-gan at 6:30 A.M. with reveille, followed by flag raising ceremonies cere-monies and roll call. Fifteen minutes of invigorating exercises next helped to create an appetite appe-tite for Scout chow. Over 500 Scouts and Scouters exercising in unison is a unique thrill to see. More thrills and experiences were evident in the skills contests con-tests and in the Cook-A-Rama throughout the entire day. , Winners in the skills contests were as follows: Chariot Race - Frontiersmen Patrol, Troop 33 Compass Course Eagle Patrol, Troop 183 Nature Identification - Eagle Patrol, troop 35 Heaving Bar - Owl Patrol, Troop 39 String Burning - Hawk Patrol Troop 39 Scout Pace - Panther Patrol Troop 183 Fire by Flint & Steel - Owl Patrol, Troop 192 Log Sawing - Fox Patrol, Troop 427 Cook-A-Rama event and win- r IT V V. Troop 39 Barbecue Cooking, Troop 427 Desserts, Troop 432 Dutch Oven Cooking, Troop 192 Bean Hole Cooking, 192 Cooking Using No Utensils, Troop 482 Boys Camp Now Starting 20th Year YMCA Camp Roger will begin its twentieth summer of operation opera-tion for boys and girls in June with a new recreation lodge and an entirely new program. J. Otis Stroud, GeneralSecret-ary GeneralSecret-ary of the Young Men's Christian Association, said the age limit for camp attendance has been lowered to eight, with a top limit of 15. Youngsters are now being registered at the Salt Lake Area Y, 737 East 2nd South, for one-week one-week camp periods which begin June 23 for girls and July 14 for boys. Mr. Stroud said camp fee is $33 for Y members, $35 for non-members, and there are currently openings in all camp periods through August 11. He said that camp physicals will be offered at the Y one week prior to each camp period for a $1.00 fee. And, for the first time, buses will leave each 'Sunday from the Salt Lake Y for the camp which is located 65 miles east of Salt Lake City in the Soapstone region of Wasatch National Forest, just 15 miles east of Kamas, Summit County. At the Awards Ceremony concluding con-cluding the two -day activity, Awards in the Skills and Cook-A-Rama were presented to the winning Patrols and Troops. Following Fol-lowing these presentations, the special camping awards were make to troops judged as outstanding out-standing camping units. Dixon, 19, son of tor. and Mrs. Ralph Dixon, 686 E. 400 N., i Orem, Utah, received a para chutist Badge May 9 upon completion comple-tion of the Infantry School's three-week airborne course at Ft. Benning, Ga. His training, which included five jumps from a C-130 airplane air-plane flying 170 miles an hour at an altitude of 1,250 feet, qualified him as. a parachutist. He also underwent strenuous physical conditioning. . Cadet Russell A. Olsen WEST POINT, N.Y. - Cadet Russell A. Olsen, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde R. Olsen, Duchesne, Utah, will graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point Wednesday, June 5. Cadet Olsen, who will receive a bachelor of science degree, was appointed to the Military Academy as a qualified alternate. He is a 1964 graduate of Orem High School. Lt. Michael Thorpe Assigned To Army Imagery Post FORT HOLABIRD 1st Lieutenant Michael D. Thorpe, son of Lt. Col. DeanW. Thorpe of Fort Lee, Va., has been assigned as-signed to the U.S.Army Imagery Interpretation Center at Fort Holabird. Lt. Thorpe, who graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor of science degree in political science, received his commission by participating in the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Utah State.
