I would get nothing done if I had TV for as it is, the radio has such a fascination for me that little get done now. I can't bear to,, listen and I can't bear not to.. I wonder if De Gaulle's present situation is heavy on his mind and if he gives any thought to the unkind words he has pontificated ponti-ficated regarding other, and to his way of thinking LESSER, countries? Today is a beautiful, bright, day as of this moment. That doesn't mean it wont be raining rain-ing in half an hour. Lately it is a question of what to wear if ' you have to go out.. What ever you finally settle on is likely to be the wrong thing. I've given up on changing as the weather goes and just going boldly forth in "whatever is at hand,-After all when five FIVE tornado funnels are sighted over the Cedar Mountains and one of them .touches down in a part of the qountry where the tornado is something that never happens, what can one hope of making something of the weather? - Rummaging through this upstairs up-stairs I just turned up a yellowed Clipping which states, and I quote ".Statistics Prove Older Drivers Safest," and unquote. This startling startl-ing fact is dated June 19, 1956. I'm sure at that time I wrote a chit saying I TOLD YOU SO! For, it has long been my contention con-tention that we go about this driving thing backwards. Now, what I preach is this: Start every driver out with a Clean record, a grand-daddy license, so to speak. Let it be known that the first accident with that driver at fault, would bring CONSEQUENCES and each following accident would compound com-pound these consequences. , 1 really believe that to keep that original license free and clear, even the most irresponsible driver driv-er would make a great effort at safe driving. Perhaps at the end of a free and clear year, some reward should be bestowed. And there is the present and everlasting--hassle about likker in the local arena. I have a cure for this, too. People, on one side of the spectrum, are irritated and worse, at the sight of brown paper bags in restur-ants restur-ants etc, while the people with the brown paper bags are irritated irri-tated and worse with the irritation irri-tation of the teetotalers. I hope 1 1 make myself clear enough to follow. Well, why not do as the Jews have done these uncounted number of years with their kosher restaurants? Why not have LDS restaurants so. labled and so recognized? I ifiean this. I'm NOT trying tr be funny. It seems to me tha. this would be an answer to this problem. TIRE SERVICE Security Seminar Set For Oct. 14-25 In Provo Provo City Corporation, Utah County, Provo Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and Brigham Young University will join together to co-sponsor the 1968-69 National Security Seminar in Provo, according ac-cording to B.E. (Bye) Jensen, Provo, general chairman. The four organizations will co-sponsor the Provo seminar, one of seven scheduled in the United States in the coming year. The Oct. 14-25 seminar will be conducted by the Industrial College Col-lege of the Armed Forces. The purpose of the Seminar is to help educate reserve military mili-tary officers and interested civilians in the management of national security resources and in factors bearing on the nation's survival. Mr. Jensen said, 'With all the questions that people have about the war in Vietnam and the role of Russia and Red China, they will find the seminar to be an information-packed briefing of facts our citizens should know about the present state of our national security. It points to the national and international problems facing this country; social and military aspects of national security. All are brought into focus as areas of study during the Seminar." The program is designed to increase the general understanding understand-ing of America's position in the world today, including the great questions of world communism, foreign policy, foreign aid, public opinion, civil defense, the population pop-ulation explosion and economic development. A total of 32 colorfully illustrated il-lustrated lectures and 17 up-to-date short films are included in the seminar. Interested while those civilians wishing to enroll en-roll may do so through the Provo Chamber of Commerce. Students Urged To Train For Abilities Students in Utah often make their choices for training with too little consideration for their ability and the opportunities open to them," said Dr. Allen, Director Dir-ector of the Coordinating Council of Higher Education. A master plan report on Enrollment, Admissions and retentions" re-tentions" urged that students should choose training that is right for them. The report indicated in-dicated it is not enough to take a training course; first, the students stu-dents should make sure there are jobs that call for that type of training. Dr. Allen said, 'In some cases there are half as many jobs available as there are students getting training. The decisions" added Dr. Allen, "students make can affect their whole life;', therefore, it must be the right decision." 'The report shows that programs pro-grams and grading standards vary at each institution; success rates of the student vary from a low of 57 at Snow College to a high of 70 at the College Col-lege of Southern Utah. Not all students fit the pre-professional pre-professional courses typical of a university. The report indicated that some students would do much better to choose a technical, vocational, or semi-professional field and start their preparation prepara-tion in this area when they begin their freshman year. To be sure the students make the right decision, they should check with their high school counselor, study the situation carefully, and chances are they will wind up with an education that's best for them," added Dr. Allen.
