Show OREM - GENEVA TIMES Thursday, May 2, 1957 NEW PARK MY EE HMD OREM KIWM!!S PARK Plans were formulated by the Kiwanis Club of Oretn to commence com-mence a park development program pro-gram in Orem. A three and one half park site has been authorized authori-zed for purchase by Orem City. The local Kiwanis club has agreed to develop the site. The project was briefly discussed at the Kiwanis Club luncheon meeting Tuesday. No name for the park has been officially adopted but club members are hopeful that It will carry the name of the Orem Kiwanis Ki-wanis Park. The site of the park is on the Carterville Road, off of the hill from 8th South St. The park will still be within the city limits of Orem. Featured speaker at the Kiwanis Ki-wanis meeting this week was District Governor Francis Ellis of Weiser, Idaho, who is governor govern-or of the Utah-Idaho District. The governor urged the Orem club to make a better effort to disprove the club's membership. Me commended the club for organizing or-ganizing a Key Club at Orem High School and for the club's monthly achievement reports. Other guests at the luncheon included Roy Olsen, district secretary se-cretary from Provo, two Orem High School Key Club members, Gad Williams, president; and J. D. Gardner, president elect for 1957 school year; and three coeds co-eds from BYU sang a trio- Sharon Shar-on Steele, Kay and Noreen Moody. The Orem 12th Ward under the leadership of Bishop Laird D. Billings witnessed an ambition that was first started 10 years ago. The event was the ground-breaking for their new $240,000 LDS Chapel. The new chapel will be localed on 8th East and 14th South. Pictured top reading left to right are the officials conducting the first digging for the new building. President G. Smith, who conducted an auction after the ceremony of five shovels used in the ceremony, lowers right, purchasers pur-chasers of , the shovels were: Mr. and Mrs. Ccnrad Harward, Daryle Stanley, Dona Sumner, Vern Keetch, kneeling, Roy Billings. The sixth shovel used in the ceremony will be placed in the new building's trophy case, with a plaque which will contain all the names of members who care to participate. Construction will get underway about May 10. Awarded Heifer Phillip Holdaway. Phillip Holdaway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Holdaway of Vineyard, was awarded the Chapter Holstein Chain heifer. Phillip or any other chapter member that receives a chain animal is obligated to take good care of the animal and when the animal reaches maturity he must turn back to the chapter the first heifer calf the animal bas so that the chain may be continued. , Friday morning, 18 FFA members will leave for Logan where they will participate in the state FFA judging contests to be held Friday and Saturday Satur-day at the USAC Campus. Gappmayer, Director V. Emil Hansen, Director O. V. Farnsworth, Director There was absent: None. After the meeting had been duly called to order and the minutes of the preceding meeting meet-ing read and approved, the following fol-lowing ordinance was intro duced in written form by V. Emil Hansen and was read in full. It was moved by Roy H. Gappmayer and seconded by V. E. Hansen that said ordinance be made subject to immediate adoption and that the rule requiring re-quiring introduction on a date previous to the time of such adoption be unanimously waiv ed. The vote on such motion was as follows: Aye: Luzell Robbins Roy H. Gappmayer V. Emil Hnasen Nay: , None. The Chairman declared that all members of the Board of Di rectors present had voted f,or the motion and that there were present directors from not less than three-fourth of all cities composing said Metropolitan Water District and representing not less than three-fourths of the total votes of said District. Thereupon the question of the adoption of the ordinance was put to a vote pursuant to motion made by Roy H. Gappmayer and seconded by V. Emil Hansen. After due discussion the ordinance ordin-ance was adopted by the following follow-ing vote: Aye: Luzell Robbins Roy H. Gappmayer V. Emil Hansen Nay: None The ordinance was thereupon signed by the Chairman, attested attest-ed by the Secretary and Is as follows: ORDINANCE NO. 170 An Ordinance determining tHat the interest of the Me-ropolitan Me-ropolitan Water District of Orem and the public interest est and necessity demand the construction and acquisition of certain improvements and ordering the submission at an election of the proposition of incurring certain bonded indebtedness therefor. WHEREAS the improvements hereinafter described are essential es-sential to the health and well being of the inhabitants of the Metropolitan water District of Orem; and WHEREAS there, is in the treasury of said District insufficient insuf-ficient funds to provide for the construction of said improvements; improve-ments; and WHEREAS Chapter 8 of Ttile 73 of the Utah Code, 1953, provides pro-vides that a metropolitan, water district may incur debt and issue is-sue bonds for the purpose of constructing such i improvements, improve-ments, provided that the question ques-tion of the issuance of such bonds be first submitted to and authorized by vote of the qualified quali-fied electors of the District who have paid a property tax in the year preceding such election; NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Ordained by the Board of Directors Di-rectors of the Metropolitan Water Wa-ter District of Orem as follows: Section 1. That this Board of Directors does hereby determine that the interests of said District Dis-trict and the public interest and necessity demand the acquisition acquisi-tion or construction of the improvements im-provements hereinafter mentionedand men-tionedand that to satisfy such interests and necessity shall require a greater expenditure than the ordinary annual income in-come and revenue of the District Dis-trict shall permit. Section 2. That the object and purpose for which the indebtedness indebted-ness of the District is hereby proposed to be incurred is to improve the present water supply sup-ply of the territory within the District by piping the Alta Ditch Springs, by securing1 additional needed water for said territory through the drilling of wells and by erecting water storage tanks. Section 3. That the estimated j cost of said improvements, in- eluding all Incidental, fiscal, le- i gal and engineering costs, is : ; $150,000, and the amount of the principal of the indebtedness to j be incurred therefor is $150,000. Section 4. That the maximum rate of interest to be paid on such indebtedness shall be 6 per annum, payable semi-aa-: sale of said bonds. Section 5. That there shall be held in the Metropolitan Water Wa-ter District of Orem on the 17th day of May, 1957, between Jhe hours of 7:00 a. m. and 8:00 p. m. a special election at which there shall be submitted to such qualified electors of said District as shall have paid a property tax in the year pre ceding such election the propo sition set out in the form of ballot appearing in Section 7 hereof. Section 6. That said election shall be held, to the extent not inconsistent herewith or with ' the Metropolitan Water District Act (Chapter 8 of Title 73 of i the Utah Code, 1953), in accord Precinct Number 1 may vote at the City Hall of Orem City at Center and State Streets. Those electors who are qualified to vote at said election and reside in Election Precinct Number 2 may vote at the home of Frank Wof linden 1497 South State Street, Orem City, Utah.
