The show opened Sept. 20, 2000 and runs through Oct. 7. "Drood" is an adaptation of diaries Dickens' last novel, w hich was left unfinished at his death. Rupert Holmes, who wrote the book, music and lyrics for "Drood." has left it to the audience to decide each night who the killer is and the real identity of detective Dick Datchery. In Holmes' adaptation of "Drood." the play b performed by a troupe of Victorian performers from the Musk Hall Royale. The players are presided over by a chairman w ho acts as emcee, pointing point-ing out clues and introducing members mem-bers of the cast Larry Carpenter directs the production. pro-duction. His previous directing efforts at PTC were "Kiss Me Kale" and "The Pirates of Penance." Carpenter was nominated nominat-ed for a Tony Award for his direction direc-tion of "Starmites" on Broadway and. also in New York City, he has directed the Roundabout Theatre Companv productions of "Light lTp the Sky." "The Doctor Dilemma" and "Privates on Parade" (which won the Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play). Carpenter is an Emmy Aw ard-winning director for the CBS davtime drama "As the World Turn's." Local favorite Max Robinson appears in the role of William Cartw right, w ho functions as Chairman of the Music Hall Royale and plays the role of Mayor Sapsea in the music hall s production of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Max recently finished playing Harold Hill at this summers production pro-duction of "The Music Man" at Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheatre. He recently played Oscar Mkle in an extended production of "Gross Indecencies" at the Studio Theatre in Washington. D C. w hich earned him a Helen Hayes Aw ard nomination. nomina-tion. Robinson has appeared in nearly SO PTC productions. Husband and wife actors Robert Gallagher and Marie Danvers play the roles of Gie Paget (John Jasper in "Edwin Drood") and Deirdre Peregrine ( Rosa Bud), respectively. Both New York-based actors are making their debut at PTC. Vienneau appeared on Broadway as Fantine in "Les Miserables" and was a featured soloist in "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" concert tour. Landry also appeared in "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber," singing the part of Christine. Her Broadway credits include Zoya "Apartment" and the original company of "The Scarlet Pimperncll."'Mr. BlaisdeU has appeared on Broadw ay in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Abe Lincoln in Illinois." Returning to the PTC stage are Jonathan Hammond as Victor Gnnstead (Neville Landless), Robert Peterson as Cedric Muncneffe (Reverend Cnsparkle), Mearle Marsh as Philip Bax ( Bazzard), Bruce A. Bredeson as stage manager James Throttle. Andre Petersen as Isabel Yearsley (Beatrice) and Jeni Carver as Violet Balfour (Maid). PTC audiences will remember Hammond as Picasso in last season sea-son hit comedy, "Picasso at the Lapine Agile" and as Rosencrantz in "Rosencrantz and Guildenstem are Dead." Robert Peterson is a recipient of the Governor Award in the Arts and favorite of Utah audiences, having appeared in over JO productions at PTC. Marsh was last seen at PTC as a Protean in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and has appeared in a dozen other roles since his PTC debut in "Hello. Dolly!" Bruce A. Bredeson has appeared regularly at PTC, Sundance, the Hale Center Theatre. Promised Valley and the Grand Theatres. He was last seen in PTC production of "Big River " Jeni Carver has been seen at the Hale Center Theatre, The Grand Theatre and the Salt Lake Acting Company and w as last at PTC as the book, which westerners simply cannot afford to ignore, that relationship to the land. "It is the treasure of the West -the landscape, the wilderness." Davis said. She added that inevitable change is on the horizon - Ike sees it in the small Montana town and out-' siders see it throughout the West. "We do have to stop and start thinking about what do we do about this rapid expansion expan-sion and development. We can't afford not to." she said. The book focuses on what Davis describes as a "basic respect for life." She explained that the step from harming animals ani-mals to abusing humans is not particularly big. She also connects con-nects that respect for life to issues of the environment. Andrei Petersen appeared as Louise at Park City Egyptian Theatre Company production of "Always Patsy Chne," and was last seen at PTC in "Big River." Rounding out the Equity cast are: Bruce Harris as Nicholas Michael (Townsperson ). Derrick Alipio as Montague Pruitt (Townsperson) and Joe Konkki as Harry Sayle (Townsperson). Also in the cast are Christopher Glade as Nick dicker, II (Deputy), Deanna Olsen as Gwendolyn Pyrn (Towasperson). Robyn Kramer as Florence Gill (Wendy) and Dianna Graham as Sarah Cook (Jasper Maid). PTC Musical Director James Prigmore will conduct the orchestra for "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Pngmore has coached, conducted andor composed musk for more than 100 productions at PTC. "Take Me Along" and "Peter Pan." Costumes are by David Kay Mkkeison, w hose past designs at PTC include "Forum," "Into the Woods." "Crazy for You" and "1776," Lighting is by Peter L Willardson, who has illuminated over 90 productions pro-ductions for PTC since his first design of "The King and I" in 1972. Joe Payne (Sound) and Monica McGuire (Hair and Makeup) complete com-plete the design team for "Drood." "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" is being produced by Pioneer Theatre Company at the Roy W. and Elizabeth E. Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre, at 3(10 South and 1400 East in Salt Lake City.
