But he had a theory that the rich Ontario silver vein extended into adjoining Empire Canyon. Daly pursued his theory and discovered the Daly Mine, then Daly No. 2 and finally his bonanza mine, the Daly-West. This turn-of-the-century photograph shows the covered tramway extending from the central tunnel of the Daly Mine to the mill, partially visible on the lower right. The large waste dump on the left side of the canyon belonged to the American Flag Mine, and the dump in the upper right was produced by the Massachusetts Mine. The fine two-story house below the tramway was home to the Daly Mine's superintendent. In 1969, after landslides dammed the creek and threatened to flood the canyon, the house was moved to the mouth of Thaynes Canyon where it stands today. The Daly Mine was acquired in 1920 by John Judge who changed the name to Judge Mining & Smelting Co. The landslide of 1967 caused rerouting of Guardsman Pass Road from Empire Canyon through Ontario Canyon, bypassing all Daly's workings. Where do you want to go? We can get you there. Some sellers convey the appliances and major systems "as is," offering no promise that they will be in working order. Other agreements require all of the major -mechanical systems, such as heating, plumbing, and air conditioning, to be operational. It depends on the terms that are negotiated between the buyer and seller. At the walk-through, check the appliances by turning each one on and letting It run full cycle. This gives you a chance to make sure that any repairs that were to be made by the seller prior to the closing have been made. These details are much easier to work out before or during the closing, than after you have taken possession of your new home.
