OPEN SUNDAYS i EAT IN OR TAKE OUT IN CABINETRY School Board: by DICK GRIFFIN . . Record staff writer The Park City Board of Education decided not to decide on a name for . the new elementary school at Jeremy Ranch and approved the site-based management plan in their meeting Tuesday, April 12. The Board heard comments from Merry Haugen, the school's new principal, and concerned citizens but ultimately decided that there wasn't a clear, standout name that the community is behind. Even the Board was divided as to which name to give the school, with two votes to postpone the decision one vote for Jeremy Ranch and one vote for Engen. As a result of there being no clear decision, the Board agreed to choose a name on Wednesday, April 20. , In a related issue the progress of the elementary school is on schedule, according to Gary Acord, photo by Dick Griffin ON TOTAL DECORATING STORE WINDOW COVERINGS BLINDS DRAPERIES . He went on to say the two wings closest to 1-80 will be completed by July 1 and the northeast wing by the first or second week of July. He said the rest of the building will be , completed by the middle of August. Hours of operation for the 1994-'95 1994-'95 school year were announced as 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. for the high school, 8:20 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. for the middle school and 9:05 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. for the elementary schools. Due to staffs at the middle school and elementary schools preferring the second start time, the 8:20 start time will be switched every two years allowing the district to "please everyone half the time," according to Fielder. The district will continue to study the feasibility of two start times and before and after school options if there is enough parental support. As a result of the Utah State House of Representatives passing House Bill 29, a suggestion box will be placed in schools allowing for anonymous suggestions that must be acted on by the Board. The ' district will be expanding that requirement by allowing parents and 1 students to submit suggestions as well. Other bills affecting the Park City School district include HB 209 which makes it legal for a school board to expel a student under the age of 16 for the remainder of a -school year without providing for alternatives to the student's education (ie. home study), and HB 97 provides for an expansion of background checks for potential employees. Senate Bill 33 provides for penalties for students who are .caught damaging school property. Awards were given on behalf of the school district to Patti Davis, 'i the Parley's Park teacher who was i honored on KSL's Teacher Feature, and Hal Smith, vice principal of the high school for service above and beyond the call of duty. The next time the Board meets will be Wednesday, April 20. The Board is scheduled to discuss the new school and decide on a name. SALE NOW!! I. .. . r.u .
