Ten Orr Handle flammable liquids with care by the PARK CITY FIRE SERVICE DISTRICT Anyone can be seriously injured by carelessly using flammable liquids, li-quids, such as gasoline. Most such accidents involve boys and men ages 9 to 35. Though some are due to curiosity, the Park City Fire District says most accidents are because children and adults lack knowledge of the explosive power of flammable liquids and vapors. One gallon of gasoline is equal to 10 sticks of dynamite. Caution and care is extremely important. Typically accidents happen when gasoline is used to clean or start a fire, such as when lawn mowers are refueled when hot, when lighter fluid is sprayed on an already burning barbeque; when children play with matches and gasoline; when paint thinner is stored in a jar and used in enclosed spaces J when gasoline is kept in a jar rattfer than an approved approv-ed metal container; and when glue, hairspray andnail polish are used near heat or cigarettes. When flammable liquids do ignite, it is explosive, resulting in serious injuries. Survivors may have permanent per-manent scarsRemember to treat gasoline likedynamite: pbn't .store in basements or enclosed areas where pilot lights or .otherJieat sources might ignite it. on't smoke while refueling our car or any gas-powered ap pliance. Keep gasoline in a UL (Underwriters (Under-writers Laboratories) or FM (Factory (Fac-tory Mutual) approved container with a tight-fitting lid. Store in a well ventilated area. Never bring gasoline into the house. Don't siphon gas by using your mouth. Use a hand-operated pump. Keep your gas can tightly sealed and out of reach of children. Don't use gasoline to clean anything. It is a fuel, not a cleaner. Never refuel power equipment when engines are hot or running. If gasoline spills on clothes, "wash them immediately. Vapors can hang in cloth, even though it may appear dry. Gasoline vapors are heavy and travel along the ground. If it finds a heat source, it can explode. Use in a well-ventilated area. Heber Creeper rails to undergo repairs pldldluinig Planlfs SwQ Assorted Varieties W era si i urns U DOT opens more roads in Utah's mountains The Utah Department of Transportation has opened another high country road, and it joins the following list of recreation recrea-tion area roads now open for the summer season: SR-39 Monte Cristo Road; SR-65 East Canyon Road over Big Mountain; SR-72-From Fremont Fre-mont Jet. at 1-70 over Hogan Pass to Fremont; SR-25 Fish Lake Road; SR-148-Cedar Breaks Road; SR-35-Wolfcreek Pass from Woodland to North Fork of the Duchesne; SR-224-From Wasatch Mountain State Park to junction with SR-152, Guardsman's Guard-sman's Pass, and on to Park City; Ci-ty; SR-220 From Midway via Cascade Springs to Wasatch Mountain State Park; SR-92 Alpine Loop Road The following roads are still closed, but UDOT crews will be working to try to have them open for the Memorial Day weekend: SR-152 Guardsman's Pass; SR-150-Mirror Lake Road (now open to Milepost 25 only); SR-153 Beaver Canyon from Mt. Holly to US-fiS These summer recreation area roads are rountinely closed each winter season when declining traffic volumes do not meet warrants war-rants for snow removal. The project to begin the restoration restora-tion of the state railroad right of way used by the Heber Creeper has begun, said Caine Alder, rail planner plan-ner for the Utah Department of Transportation. "The initial project will correct many of the major ' areas of deterioration," Alder reported. "We have received cooperation to develop matching funds including labor and materials from the operator (New London Railroad and Village Co.) and from Wasatch County." Alder said other entities have expressed ex-pressed interest in participating in the restoration project. "I feel confident the legislative matching requirements will be reached and probably exceeded," he said. Although the Heber Creeper will be open for the season beginning on Mother's Day weekend, there will be some temporary delay in opening the entire line. Major geological problems pro-blems around milepost 9 and 10 have been slated for major restoration work, which will cause the delay. UDOT and the Heber Creeper have agreed to a two-week ab breviated run now while the geological problems are addressed Alder said. "This will reduce the annual maintenance cost dramatically in future years," he said. "The inconvenience in-convenience caused by the temporary tem-porary short run will be offset by improved im-proved spring service in the future." each Save by the Dozen $19.99 eramums $9.99 Doz. 0 32" Varieties Park City RDA Meeting Summit County.Utah May 18, 1989 Public Notice Is Hereby Given that the Redevelopment Agency ot Park City, Utah will hold a special meeting, at the Marsac Municipal Bldg, 445 Marsac Avenue, Park City, Utah for the purposes and at the time as described below on Thursday, May 18, 1989. 1 .
