Show mwroreTTrDTrrrre i 1 Challenge not warranted Editor: I just received a call from Jan at City Hall informing me of the results of the re-count. I have been under some pressure to challenge the election on the grounds that there are people who voted that may not have been legitimate Park City residents and that such a challenge would serve to cl';ni up Park City's voter roles once and for all. There were also a number of people who contacted me who were not allowed to vote because they had changed districts or names and were no longer properly proper-ly registered. My initial reaction was to file a claim of impropriety, I no longer feel that would be proper: 1. I don't believe, nor could I substantiate any claim that there was a deliberate attempt to throw the i! lection. 2. 1 was not concerned enough about the problems with the registration roles before the election to do anything about them. 3. This would not have been an issue to me if 1 would have won by the same margin. 4. 1 know many of the election judges and believe they all did their best. (I asked for the re-count because there is always a chance of mechanical or random error.) 5. A challenge such as this would throw a cloud over our local election process and those holding office. I believe that although the process is not perfect, it is the best we have and is the basic process of our democratic system. I don't believe democracy is perfect, but it allows me the right to ask for a re-count or to challenge the election if I choose. It is still better than any other system I know of. Although it is the responsibility of our local government to keep our vott r registration roles up to date, if I could offer some advise to those who may run for office in the future, it would be take the time to look at th . nier registration records and make challenges is before the election, elec-tion, not after. Every vote counts. I salute the efforts of everyone who ran for office. I congratulate those who were elected. I don't think anyone lost. 1 believe everything works out for the best. Sincerely, Jim White Thanks for the support Editor: I would like to thank all those who worked for me or voted for me in last week's election. I am much appreciative ap-preciative of the support I received. I also wish the newly elected council members the best of luck in dealing with the city's future; they have much work ahead of them. Running for office has turned out to be a most interesting and rewarding rewar-ding experience. I have come to know and appreciate a very large number of my fellow residents, many of whom I might not have met soon under other circumstances. Thank you all for what you have given me. Frank Harris Carnival was a success Editor: The Halloween Carnival was a great success this year. Ghosts and goblins of all ages played games, danced, ate, drank, listened to spooky stories, watched puppet shows, and some were thrown into the Goblin Prison by the Carnival Sheriff. The carnival was staffed with volunteers from the Treasure Mountain Middle School Community Council, the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board; the Teen Center; Linda Davis and Mike Alvey from the Middle School, the Junior class at the high school and other special helpers. It was the help of these volunteers and a donation of candy from Albertsons that made this event possible. Thank you, we could not have done it with out you. Our offices look great Editor: On behalf of the Park City Handicapped Han-dicapped Sports Association, I would like to thank all who have donated furnishings for our new office. Special thanks to Joan Thompson, Jan Scott-Freeman, Norma Stevens, Sherri Williams of Genesis Health and Wellness Resort, Stacey Phillips of Picture Framing Annex, Mary Dougherty of Family Jewels and Jim Delaney of Right Angle Framing. Fram-ing. Our office looks great, thanks to you. I would also like to take this opportunity oppor-tunity to invite the public to come and see us at our open house, Sunday, Sun-day, Nov. 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. We're located under the Columbine at the Resort Center. Once again, thanks for the support Park City I Sincerely, Meeche White Executive Director P.S. We're still in need of another desk and a filing cabinet. Appreciated the help Editor: The family of Ralph Garbett would like to express their deep appreciation ap-preciation and thanks to all those who sent flowers, money and food during our time of sorrow. Thank you, Nettie Garbett Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Marcellin and family Raw deal for locals Editor: Saturday, Nov. 7, students at the University of Utah were able to buy a Park City Season Pass for less than half price. Now I have nothing against students receiving special deals and discounts, for I was a student once. What my question is is what do they do for the town of Park City and the Resort? Oh, I guess we did get a discount for early purchase, but this discount was still $200 higher per pass than the student discount price. Was the price increase per pass this year to compensate for these student purchases? This town survives on tourism. Many locals and year round resident primarily rely on our tourist appeal and what would Phil Jones and Craig Badami do without the town of Park City and its locals. I have been living in Park City year round for three years and every year the resort takes more away from it's supporting factor, us. Is it ever going go-ing to stop? I feel we the locals of Park City are getting a raw deal! Gregory L. Makowski Do it right Editor: Contrary to a statement in the Tribune, the vote against the pool bond does not indicate that a pool is not wanted in Park City. It only shows that the wording was vague and inspecific about how the money would be spent. Besides, who would vote on an outdoor pool that can be used for two months of the year? It's easy to be wimpy and say that an outdoor pool costs less but why spend the money if you can't do it right. ValThurnell Meeting produced positive results Editor: On behalf of the High School Community Com-munity Council we would like to thank those parents and teachers who were able to attend our Nov. 4. meeting to discuss this year's freshman class. Your questions and comments were needed and welcomed by everyone there and some very positive things have already come from the meeting. Good education is always the result of concerned parents as well as dedicated and concerned teachers. We are fortunate for-tunate to have both in our school district.
