Turner, a Colorado native skied for the University of Colorado from 1973 to 1977, and was named to the United States Nordic Combined Team for the 1976-77 Ski Season. After coaching the Colorado University nordic teams for two seaons, Turner Tur-ner joined the staff of USSA in 1980. He was the first full time Nordic Competition Director to work for the USSA after the reorganization into National Na-tional Competition and Recreation Rec-reation Divisions at the 1980 invention in Indiana. "With Jack's dedication and innovativeness, several new USSA Nordic program offerings have been created, such as the Junior Nordic News, and other benefits for the competitor have been enhanced," said Howard Peterson, executive director USSA competition Division. "Though we will all miss Jack's enthusiasm and ideas, we know that he will be very successful in his next Volunteers sought for Parley's Art Festival Parley's Park Elementary School's annual Art Festival will be held again this year, starting April 13. "Working with the Ski Association has been one of the best experiences of my life, but it is time to take one more step in my career," said Turner. "I have the opportunity oppor-tunity to go into business for myself, and that is a dream that I have alway wanted to pursue. Although I won't be on the payroll, I will continue to be very involved with the USSA. I plan to participate as a volunteer, and there may be occasions that I can help the staff with a project. I believe very strongly in the importance of the Ski Association, Associ-ation, and I plan on being a member supporter for years to come." Turner plans to start a racing service to be headquartered head-quartered in Park City. "I see a need for a new competitor in the racing service and supplies business busi-ness and we plan to emphasize empha-size service," Turner said. "My experience with the USSA has shown me that there is a demand for experienced professional service to clubs, teams, and resorts outside the realm of USSA business, and I plan to fill that role. I know that there were many times when I needed the services of just such a company." Turner will remain with the USSA throughout the 1983 ski season and into the planning for the following year. Ski conditions Even though the calendar says it's still too early, it seems that for the time being at least spring skiing is upon us. The sun is shining. The temperatures are baking and should stay that way for a few days. Even though the snow on Main Street is rapidly-disappearing, rapidly-disappearing, the pack at the resorts bolstered by that all-important early season string of big bumps is still holding up. ParkWest is reporting an 87-inch base. Deer Valley has 83 inches and up at the resort at Park City there was a reported base of 110 inches in Jupiter Bowl as of Wednesday's big Bartender's Cup race. All lifts and runs are open at each area. So wax up those boards and get out and take advantage advan-tage of this early spring. It can't last forever. Hopefully, there's another big dump out there on the horizon, but according to the Park City Newspaper's crack meteorology staff, no snow will be heading our way for the next few days, at least. All we see in our crystal weather ball for the next few days is sunshine, sunburns and big smiles. Patk t "..
