Show THE Page 7 f tarts Sunday oung Wednesday, June 21, 1978 At Art' S A new show featuring the "Young At Art" will open at the Kimball Art Center on Sunday, June 25, and remain on display through Thursday, Thurs-day, July 13. On display will be the work of three young artists, Vivian Fleigle, Michael Halverson and Kirk Randle, all of Salt Lake City. Vivian Fleigel will exhibit collages and print-intaglios. She has previously shown at various Utah art galleries and centers as well as in the Audubon Artists 33rd and 34th Annual Exhibitions at the National Academy of Design Galleries, NYC the Los Angeles Printmaking Society Annual Exhibition, the Springfield College "Works on Paper" exhibit, the National Academy of Design, 149th and 150th Annual Exhibitions, NYC, among many others. Michael Halverson specializes spe-cializes in oil landscapes, and his paintings reflect his interest in the American northwest. He is represented in many private and public collections in the U.S. and Canada and currently exhibits exhi-bits out of the Brushworks Gallery in Salt Lake City. Kirk Randle will display a variety of his watercolors. Randle, who exhibits his work out of the Brushworks Gallery too, originally began working in printmaking, but recently has concentrated in watercolor. His work has appeared in shows in Phoenix, La Jolla, Boise, Jackson Hole, and throughout through-out Utah. The "Young At Art" show will open on Sunday, June 25, with a reception honoring the three artists from 3-5 p.m. The public is invited. Elwell Trial escheduled The June 26 trial date for former Marsac school principal John Elwell has been canceled and will be rescheduled by a new judge who has agreed to hear the case. According to Elwell 's lawyer, Kathryn Collard, Judge Stewart Hanson, Jr., who originally was scheduled to hear the case, will be unavailable for the trial on the 26th. Judge Dean E. Condor has agreed to preside over the proceedings and has set a pre-trial date of July 3, at which time he will set a trial date. Elwell was fired June 3, 1977 following a school board vote that accused the principal of insubordination. The school board is .being , represented by Oscar McConkie, and both he and Collard agreed that the same judge should preside over the pre-trial and trial. Collard, who previously indicated the administrator was dismissed on "vague" charges and denied due process, said he would be suing for more than $50,000 in damages incurred by loss of salary, benefits, and reputation as an educator. "We are extremely optimistic," said Collard. "Seldom have I entered into a case where the issues are so clear cut." Collard said the trial would probably be set for early August and she expected it to last three to four days. Elwell will appear at the July 3 pre-trial and will then leave two days later to join John Clayton and Don Sturges in Fairbanks, Alaska to begin a three-week adventure in . the Alaskan . wilderness seventy miles 2oovethel Arctic Circle. 'The trio plans to navigate the 435-mile 435-mile long Noatak river in kayaks, and if successful, will be among a handful of people to accomplish the feat this year. .77 n 1LJ mwm mm Tuesday, June 27 7:30 p.m. Park City High Tickets available at door S3? School District Requests Site The Park City School Board has requested that a 10.4 acre site set aside for a new elementary school in the proposed Silver Springs project be donated to the school district by developers Partnership Investments Incorporated. Silver Springs, formerly called Canyon Rim, encompasses 1,400 acres in the Snyderville basin from approximately Old Ranch Road north to the Hixon property, then west 1.5 miles from Highway 224, and east to the old railroad bed visible from the highway. The proposed elementary school site is planned for the area just north of Old Ranch Road, across from the W.C. Greenfields nursery. One acre of land fronting the highway has been allotted for the fire district, and the school will be constructed just east of that property. Once completed, the school would serve the students projected to inhabit the 1,277-unit development. "A development like this could fill the whole school," said school superintendent Dr. Richard Goodworth. "In addition, this last year we were busing two out of three children from the northern communities, with . two , busloads just from. Summit Park. Since we were doing that, it was suggested we look into a new school site." Preliminary plans for the new school have been drawn up by Edwards and Daniels Architects of Salt Lake City, designers of the award-winning award-winning Park City High School. Proposed is a brick and wood building with a black shingled roof. There will be 20 teacher stations to accommodate kindergarten through fourth grade, with four classrooms per grade. Each room is designed so that it is not square, to facilitate moving reading groups away from regular classroom activities. Also planned for each room is a ! drinking fountain, sink, coat area and an exit door to the outside of the building. Some kindergarten, first and second grade rooms, as well as the media center, have been designed with a kiva, or recessed area in the floor. These areas would be carpeted and would be used by a group as a reading or conversation pit. "The teachers are quite enthusiastic about the plans," Goodworth said, adding that new schools in Delta, Morgan and Fillmore were visited to supplement design considerations. "A key factor in whether the site is donated is if the project is approved," Goodworth noted. "We are moving ahead with our plans." Further discussion on the Silver Springs development is scheduled for the Summit County Planning Commission Commis-sion meeting set for July 18 in Coalville.
