Council members said they felt Acerson would be the best choice for mayor given his involvement in the city's decisions over the past few years and his understanding of the direction direc-tion and vision of the council. coun-cil. "That's what I'm concerned con-cerned about," said Councilman Council-man Jerald Hatch. "Somebody "Some-body who knows what the decisions have been." A new mayor had to be chosen by the council because of the vacancy left at the start of the year when Ellertson left to begin serving on the County Commission. Com-mission. The council, which is allowed to fill a vacancy if there are fewer than two years before the end of the mayoral term, interviewed candidates last week in an open meeting and spent the week thinking over the decision. The candidate pool included Acerson, Russell Stay, Eric Anthony, Roger Colton and David Udall, all of whom were present for the announcement Tuesday evening. Ellertson, who also was present, was similarly selected by a council vote eight years ago when the mayor prior to him left office. He said he feels Acerson Council members said they felt Acerson would be the best choice for mayor given his involvement in the city's decisions during the past few years, and his understanding of the direction and vision of the council. was a good selection for the same reasons the council stated. Acerson, a Green River native, and his wife, Karen, are the parents of six children chil-dren ages 8 to 20. Acerson has been retired from work in corporate communications com-munications at Novell for around eight years but calls it a partial retirement because of all of his community commu-nity service work. "I'm as busy as I've ever been," he said. Acerson, who owns two horses, said as someone from rural Utah he can "enjoy what Lindon is and wants to continue to have it be what it is." Aside from service on the City Council, Acerson serves as part of at least two community groups, including the American Heritage School in American Ameri-can Fork and the Lindon Character Connection, which helps develop value curriculum for schools. Lindon City is taking more applications to fill Acerson's empty council member seat. There is less than one year left of the term. To qualify, applicants must have been a Lindon resident for a year, a registered regis-tered Lindon voter and at least 21 years old. Applications can be picked up at the Lindon City Hall, 100 N. State Street. The position must be filled within 30 days.
