According to a report of the Utah Department of Fish and Game, 1 99 deer have been killed by vehicle drivers In the 1 9-mile 9-mile stretch of Highway 91 between Parowan and Cedar City, since September 1, 1963. "Besides the loss of the deer, motorists have also sustained sus-tained heavy damage to their cars during the annual slaughter," seid Department officials. It's extremely fortunate that no human hu-man lives have been sacrificed, they added. The cause of it all: Motorists are ignoring the deer crossing cross-ing signs. They are not slowing down nor keeping a sharp lookout The deer ore crossing over the highway to the lower areas in order to stay alive during the winter. It's a natural instinct they have followed for hundreds of years. Seems as though the auto drivers are doing just the opposite.' oppos-ite.' They ore ignoring the deer signs and speed signs and hastening has-tening their own possible demise. Traffic officers called attention to the "deer-hazards" especially es-pecially during the Christmas rush. Will drivers pay them any heed.? ' Which are the "dumb" animals, the drivers or the deer? Which ore the more stupid? t's:;-:.' ' . v r-c ft Calliornians Vhit Guests from Calif, Smokey Says: V 4 THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF CHRIST has, for centuries been an Inspiration to artists. The Nativity, the adoration of the shepherds, the journey of the Wise Men, and the Madonna and Child have been the subjects of hundreds of beautiful paintings. Jet us remember the importance in history of Christ's birth and life. Let us remember the principles he taught: love, trust, honesty, devotion and service to others. Let us put material possessions and wealth in their proper places: to serve others in their times of need; to build a better life for all . . . in a world of peace. Let us do unto others as we would have them do unto us . . . in a word ... let us keep Christ in Christmas. - ' 5 ' ft'- .
