A, 1964 for $2,700,000.00 according to Superintendent Dan Peterson The bond election Is necessary because the District is currently current-ly growing at the rate of about 600 pupils per year, and because be-cause two of the .older buildings, build-ings, Alpine and Union, must be replaced. This figure is well within the legal limit of the District and . is a figure recommended by fiscal fis-cal agents from Walker Bank in Salt Lake City. It will make it possible for the Board of Education to avoid refunding of any bonds during the next three years. The money will provide additional addi-tional classroom space in Alpine, Al-pine, American Fork, Orera Homecoming for Joye Nelson Set for Sunday Merry Joye Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, J. The Board of .Education say that the passing of the bond issue will not and cannot increase in-crease taxes. - Full-time First Grade There have been -many requests, re-quests, according to Superintendent Superin-tendent Peterson .for the district dis-trict to provide a full-time first grade in all elementary schools and a seven period day for the secondary schools. For several weeks the Board of Education has been studying the feasibility feasibil-ity : and the cost of providing these services for the school children. Civic, church, school and social so-cial leaders of all communities in the district have met with the Board to help them' determine deter-mine whether a voted leeway should beheld to provide these additional opportunities for the .students. The full-time first grade and the seven period day would cost an approximate mill levy increase in-crease M 4.5 mUls on -the assessed valuation. Since the average .home in the , District has an assessed valuation of $2,000 for taxation purposes, the additional services could be . provided for an average increase in-crease of $9.00 to home owners. Action on this issue was deferred de-ferred to Jan. 8. Patrons are invited to contact their board members prior to the Jan. 8 meeting on their desires in this matter. SHOPPING DAYS SUCCESSFUL If success can be measured in dollars and sometimes it can; Pleasant Grove's 1963 Christmas Turkey Shopping Days were a success. That was the candid opinion of George Paul, chairman, last Saturday morning. . Mr. Paul said it was impossible impos-sible to estimate accurately the number of tickets in the "squirrel "squir-rel cage" prior to last Friday's drawing. "A candid guess would place the total at close to 90,000," he added. Anyway, a good time was had by all on Main Street Friday afternoon. Santa Claus was on hand and passed out lollipops to the kiddies, and in their opinion, opin-ion, that was enough to make the occasion a bang-up festival of fun. The Moms, Dads, and big brothers and sisters were not forgotten either. Fifty-four of them were lucky in the drawing, draw-ing, receiving either a certificate certifi-cate calling for a turkey or five or ten dollars in merchandise script.
