Show IHUIJUUIf HWIVIIIWfcl VWV Consumer Protection warns Utah consumers about online dating scam I tm l ; Francine Giani, Execu-. tive Director of the Utah Department of Commerce, announced that Consumer Protection investigators have received a report from a Utah woman who lost over $5,670 in a new version of the Nigerian lottery lot-tery scam. According to the consumer complaint, a woman from Roy signed up as a client on the dating site, LDSPromise.com, and met a man who called himself him-self "James Calvin Peters". The victim told investigators investi-gators that after making initial contact with Peters, Brookside School had many fun Red Ribbon Week Activities including a door decorating contest. The winners were, First place: Mr. Ross's 3rd Grade - rewarded with an ice-cream party; Second place: Mrs. J. Mes-senger. She said he began asking for her help with banking business and sent her a fake cashier's check for $43,200. Peters then asked her to deposit it for him in her bank account and directed her to send the money to Nigeria via Western Union. The woman complied and was told by Western Union that this was part of the "Nigerian Scam." When confronted by -jA-i : the victim, Peters claimed he didn't know anything about this scam and told the victim to wire money to three other locations. In the end, the woman lost over $5,670 which could not be recovered.
