" .. ; halls" for homecoming f Kate Clayson SHS STAFF WRITER On Monday, Sept. 18, SHS students (and teachers) teach-ers) stayed after school to decorate the halls of Springville High for "A Magical Homecoming'' that kicked off a week of activities leading to the game and formal dance on Friday and Saturday. The student council helped each class create a hall that provided a unique and magical experience for the students. The sophomore hall sported the romantic Disney Dis-ney theme, "Beauty and the Beast.". There were stenciled pictures of characters from the movie, ' and to top it all off, Disney music in the hall. The junior hall was divided di-vided in half; one half represented rep-resented the white wintry wonderland of Narnia. here was cottony snow on the walls and pictures of children and beavers everywhere. ev-erywhere. The other half of the hall represented the seasonal change into spring, with multicolored balloons and paper everywhere. every-where. The senior hall was completely com-pletely transformed from form the great works of Shakespeare for all to see, then check out the Drama Guild. To top it all off a paper rendition of "The Womping Willow" was created in the corner of the hall - thrashed car and all. Lady Red Devils win and lose On September 18th, the Provo Bulldogs came to town looking to avenge their home field loss to the Red Devils. It was a very dynamic match. Both teams fought hard, and Springville dominated with significantly more shots on goal. They clanked numerous numer-ous shots off the crossbar or missed wide by inches. Finally, Heather Hatfield took a free kick from 30 yards out on the right side and lifted it perfectly into the upper left corner for the first goal of the game. In the second half, the Devils continued to dominate. domi-nate. Rather than sit back on defense, they pressed forward and continued to pepper the goal with shots. Again, they clanked and missed by inches. With 30 seconds left, Provo was awarded a free kick just outside the box. The shot went low through the wall and was deflected into the goal to level the score. The referee allowed overtime. ', In the first overtime, both teams held firm. Five minutes into the second overtime, Provo got a breakaway that resulted in a shot that bounced under the keeper for the golden goal and the win. On September 21st, the Timpview T-Birds were hosted by the Devils. Timpview is a better team than their record shows and they were feisty and ready to play. In the 10th minute, Karlie Jensen took a ball down the right wing and centered it to Haylie Francis who had come up from midfield. Francis one-touched the half volley from 20 yards out and over the hands of the keeper for a quick go-ahead go-ahead goal. Springville 1-nil. 1-nil. It was beautiful goal that set the tone for the rest of the game. i Springville was in control con-trol the rest of the way. In the 39th minute, Jessica Jes-sica Rogers came forward from stopper and took a long high shot that the keeper blocked, but Francis Fran-cis followed and touched into the net. Springville 2-nil. Francis had a brace against Timpview last year and repeated the feat this year. The week-ended with Orem on top of the table and Springville and Provo tied for second place and working for a place in the state tournament. V 1 It Z if, A 1 N and eying the regional championship, g f Lady Reci Devils Prepare for Region ana State Nicole Pigott SHS STAFF WRITER As the Lady Red Devil Tennis Team finishes their season, they faced their toughest competition in region, re-gion, the Orem Tigers and the Timpview T-Birds. These matches were held Monday, Sept. 25, at Orem', and Tuesday, Sept. 26 with Timpview. Finishing off their season with these tough matches prepared the Red Devils for region and state competitions. Region will be held at Springville on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28 and 29. Come watch the competition competi-tion and support our Lady Red Devils. ' State will be held on October Oc-tober 6, at Liberty Park in Salt Lake. We are counting on all of our SHS Varsity team to finish high in region and make a big impression at state. Our tennis team is exceptional excep-tional this year and is planning plan-ning on taking 1st or 2nd in region; with a win against Orem, the Red Devils will take 1st in region.
