Center Street - Orem www.lenderins.com Brittany Merrill SHS STAFF WRITER Homecoming Week at SHS has lots of great activities ac-tivities to promote school spirit, including dress up days. Each day of the week has a different theme and students dress up accordingly. accord-ingly. Monday was Hero Day, and students dressed up as everything from superman, su-perman, batman, and cat woman, to Miss America and random made-up heroes; he-roes; everyone was saving the day. Tuesday was decade day, and students picked their favorite decade and dressed in that style. Some wore long dresses with high collars from the 20's, some wore loose flowery shirts and bell bottoms from the 60's, and some wore enormous fros, leggings, leg-gings, and spandex from the 80's. It was a century of fashion do's and don'ts all in one day. Wednesday was shiny day. Students were surrounded sur-rounded with sparkles, me-tallics, me-tallics, and sequins in every ev-ery shape and size. There was everything from foil and duct tape skirts to old sequined dancing uniforms; uni-forms; it was like a revolving revolv-ing disco ball in the halls. Thursday was CRAZY day. Students had mismatched mis-matched socks, crazy hair, weird hats, and wild sunglasses, and they wore them all at once. Friday was spirit day and everyone promoted school spirit by wearing their class colors. Seniors wore red, juniors wore blue, and sophomores wore white. Some students wore special spe-cial class shirts that were designed by students. Dress up days heightened height-ened the anticipation of homecoming and were really re-ally fun! Go SHS! October's poplars are flaming torches lighting the way to winter. - Nova Bair Students have great time at homecoming assembly Tayler Mountford SHS STAFF WRITER This year's Springville High School Homecoming Homecom-ing Assembly was quite an event. It started off with an amazing rendition rendi-tion of the "Star Spangled Span-gled Banner" by the SHS choir, followed by a couple cou-ple of great performances performanc-es by the cheer squad and the drill team. The SHS band then played the "Fight Song." And a couple of slightly off-key (but incredibly brave) sophomores lent their voices to the school song competition afterwards. after-wards. The sophomore duet was successful, and they happily walked away 50 bucks richer. Then came the real competition; a Fear Factor Fac-tor competition between a member of the class of 1987, an SHS teacher, teach-er, and a student. The goal: to drink a "protein shake" a disgusting concoction that included sardines, spam, and a variety va-riety of other disgusting, but edible, items. The Fear Factor competition com-petition was followed by SHS's very own version of the game show, Deal or No Deal. But it was all for a good cause because the money won in the Fear Factor competition and the game show will be donated, by the class of 1987, to the Make-A-Wish foundation. The class of 1987 did a fantastic job; they pumped up school spirit, put on a great show, generously donated money to a worthy wor-thy cause, and threw out some fun t-shirts to the: student body. The student council chose an interesting approach ap-proach to introduce this year's homecoming royalty. roy-alty. The student council made a movie, modeled on the popular Harry Potter series. The SHS homecoming queen was stolen by the infamous and terrible Lord Volde-mort, Volde-mort, but in the end, she was saved by the heroic and brave student council. coun-cil. The football team closed the assembly with their special cheer and a promise that a win would be ours in the Friday night game against Lehi. Students get down and dirty at mud volleyball event Jonas Tyler SHS STAFF WRITER Mud, sweat, blood and rain were all major factors fac-tors in Wednesday's mud volleyball spectacular. As the student body gathered west of the muddy softball fields, the energy that surrounded sur-rounded the field was of excitement and dirty, dirty competitiveness. Fierce battles, war-like chants, and funny outfits, worn mostly by SHS boys, were prevalent and abundant. abun-dant. The teams fought vigorously against one another an-other to come out on top as the mud champions of the universe. The pouring rain never seemed to cease, Qcific Horizon CREDIT UNION 96 E. Who doesn't like to be drenched in mud?" As the games started to die down, one team of muddy, good lookin' boys were declared the Ultimate Champions. The Bohemian Mudmen consisted of SHS students Thomas Carroll, Kyle Houston, Alexander Bateman, Logan Merkely, Matthew Taylor, Greg Walker, Cody Neilson, Jeph Coates, Jordan Hall, and Bryce Wright.
