Along with dressing up in duct tape and cowboy hats (among other things...) there were events after school, like hall decorating, mud volleyball, and the burning of the "S," all leading lead-ing up to the football team's victory over Orem. But this year the student council whipped up something really real-ly special: they invited ComedySportz to come perform per-form for the students! ComedySportz is an interactive improvisational comedy group. Unlike "standup comedy," in which one performer tells preplanned pre-planned jokes to the audience, audi-ence, improvisational comedy come-dy involves a whole group of performers making up scenes and playing games on the spot based on audience audi-ence suggestions. A ComedySportz match features two teams of comedy come-dy "actletes" competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving mov-ing and calling fouls. In the show at SHS, we were treated to a performance perfor-mance by three really nice-looking nice-looking young men and one rotund piano player. They began the show with a song rhyming game, in which they had to rhyme with the names students presented them. Another game was the spelling bee game, where two players and an SHS student stu-dent had to spell words one letter at a time, and then give the definition one word at a time. They had an especially espe-cially hard time spelling and defining the word "kavorku-late," "kavorku-late," a student-provided, nonsensical word. One of the favorite games played was one in which three of the players acted out the personalities of some teachers and a student at our school. "Nerdy" Mr. Eskelsen had to give "fair" Dr. Webb a backrub, but they were interrupted by "crazy" student body president presi-dent Zac Jensen. Although Mr. Eskelsen and Dr. Webb aren't exactly like they were portrayed, the one portraying Zac got it exactly right. . .go figure.
