Well the SHS Cross Country Team can tell you how. Actually, Actu-ally, they could probably tell you by running circles around you. The SHS Cross Country Team had two meets in the past week and a half. At the Wasatch Meet at the Cottonwood Cotton-wood Complex our team took overall 5th place. This is very good for what we had to run. This course isn't an easy courses; this one is more complex. It has hills and curves. When you could run, you could easily fall. But Springville kept the pace up. They ran a fast and hard race. SHS also ran a fantastic race in Cedar City. The Springville High School Boys' Cross Country Team competed in the Cedar High played a great game, and didn't did-n't let any balls past her. The Devils started the second sec-ond half with a lot of intensity. intensi-ty. At the ten minute mark, midfielder Jessica Rogers gave a beautiful pass through the Pioneer's defensive line to right forward Crosby Joyner. Joyner finished the play with a perfectly-placed shot, putting Springville up on the board. The goal by Joyner lifted Springville's morale. This was apparent when junior Karissa Henage scored another goal from the top of the 18, tying the score with Lehi. The assist to Henage was made by sophomore Hailey Francis. The majority of the second half was played in the middle third of the field. Both teams had scoring chances, but neither nei-ther was able to finish. Towards the middle of the second half, junior Heather Hatfield collided with Lehi's Breezy Chandler in an attempt to head the ball. Both players came out of the jump holding their heads, and Chandler had to leave the field. Hatfield finished out the game and continued her strong play together with the rest of the defense. The Devil's final goal came when Joyner kicked a comer. In the chaos, the ball popped out at sophomore's Kaylyn Swanson's feet. She made a great left-footed shot over the goalie's hands to put Springville in the lead. This was Swanson's first goal this year. to welcome 50 S. Well I have and they do a fantastic job. They are all very hard workers. Take an afternoon and come and see our SHS Cross Country Team run. They need the support, they work hard, and they are awesome at what they do. During the last three years the girls' team has won region re-gion three times and the boys' team has won region twice. When asked what he thought the chances of winning win-ning regions again this year, Ben replied, "Both the boys' and the girls' teams have a pretty good chance for this year, but with all our new freshmen anything is possible." possi-ble." He went on to say that the SHS boys look especially strong, "With good swims from Mike Buzbee, Daniel Simmons, Tyson Stark, Bronson Woods, and Tim Call, there is a very strong chance that the boys' team will win regions and probably proba-bly place in the top three at state, and girls in the top ten." Coach Ben is the third new swimming coach in the last four years, and when asked how all these coaching changes effect the team he replied, "It's a tough thing to deal with, with all the change some of the swimmers don't haveor haven't been able to develop a strong training base. Every coach is different, differ-ent, and with all the change it's hard for the swimmer to be where they could be if they had a regular coach." While coaching swimming for the last seven years, Ben has also been attending BYU; he earned his bachelors degree de-gree in exercise science and is currently working on f in-ishing in-ishing his masters degree in exercise physiology. When Ben is done with school he plans to become a facilities manager of a pool or something some-thing Eke that. When not coaching swimming, swim-ming, Ben spends his free time with his wife and nine-month nine-month old daughter hiking in the beautiful mountains. Coach Ben is also excited to coach with Kathryn. Coach Kathryn is currently attending BYU. She swam throughout high school in California, and she also swam on the BYU women's team. She has previously coached the Provo Pikes County Swim Team, and is the new assistant coach at Springville High. She brings great enthusiasm and color to the team. Both Coach Ben and Coach Kathryn are excited for this season, although it will be hard work, Ben says improvement im-provement is the first step to winning regions and placing well at state. Good luck to all the SHS swimmers. Football ing 14 yards per catch, while leading the defense with 17 solo tackles and 46 assisted tackles.
