There were over 1200 entries en-tries spread throughout six categories, and an unimaginable unimagin-able amount of skill, talent and competition. ; Congratulations to Jordan of his achievement and to all others who participated in this writing contest. SHS STAFF WRITER Beautiful choreographed movements, gentle caresses of the hands upon the air,-elongated air,-elongated legs as a leap is born; this could only describe the dramatic Springville High School Dance Company tryouts which were held Friday, Fri-day, Apr. 29. Countless dancers showed up to display their talents for the judges while trying to secure se-cure a spot on next year's team. The elegant Katelyn Sheffield was the teacherchoreographer of the dance which the dancers hurriedly tried to memorize before their number was called. After all the dancers had performed the dance, the judges began the scrutinizing scrutiniz-ing task of picking the team members. The mood in the hallway outside the judges' room was hopeful and tense as dancers sat quietly clasping their hands together waiting for the official list to be posted. One of the senior dancers slowly walked into the hall, slapped the list onto the wall, and announced that the dancers could all come see if they made the team. Excited screams and disappointed sighs put an end to the SHS Dance Company tryouts. Congratulations to all the devoted dancers who tried out for the team and to all the new team members! After seeing a news broadcast about the service that was happening at Springville High School, the Springville Rotary Club was so impressed that at their last meeting, they donated $500 and with additional personal donations, a check for $850 to the Springville High School Make-a-Wish fund was presented. The money will help grant our wish for next year's Wish Child. Make-a-Wish ambassadors Ben Priest and Bethany Burr spoke the Rotary Club about the purpose of Make-a-Wish and the service events at the school. Ernie Parkin, club President, presented the check. Drama Students Vie for SuwrinrMarfoat Rffrinn A fond farewell to "Doc" Elizabeth Lee SHS STAFF WRITER Twelve SHS drama students stu-dents performed spectacularly spectacu-larly at the Regional Drama Competition at Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake. After Af-ter months of arduous preparation, prepa-ration, students executed monologues, pantomimes and both contemporary and classical scenes. The competition was fierce, and the students had to do their best against students stu-dents from every other 4-A school in the state. Though the drama department depart-ment has not received the judge's scores yet, SHS drama dra-ma teacher Allison Evans said, "I think we did well; the kids felt good about their performances and that's what matters, but I'm sure we did very well." To thank Doc for his years of hard work and dedication, dedi-cation, family, friends and fellow co-workers hosted a farewell open-house on Monday, Mon-day, Apr. 25. It was a bittersweet day for many. It was a day to reminisce, it was a day to celebrate, cel-ebrate, and it was a day to express our incredible love and appreciation for a won derful man. Doc is a teacher who has truly left an impression on his students. Members of the marching band, jazz band, symphonic band, and the many other SHS bands all have shared their sadness at his retirement. Many students, stu-dents, including seniors who would not be his students next year anyway, are sad-denedf sad-denedf by Doc's retirement. Many students have expressed ex-pressed their wishes that their younger siblings could 'have been taught by Doc. Many SHS students who have never even had a class with Doc are still feeling the loss because Doc is the kind of teacher, the kind of person, per-son, who leaves a kind, warm impression on you no matter now much time ou've actually spent with Fueled by a lot of donated cake and by the singing of songs dedicated by SHS bands to Doc, large numbers of people spent April 25 reminiscing rem-iniscing with Doc about the many memories they have with him and expressing their appreciation directly to him for all the wonderful things he has done for SHS and our community.
