Any suggestions of what we should watch for and what maybe to expect? Answer: The length of gestation in a dog is about 63 days. About 12 to 24 hours prior to the onset of labor, she usually becomes restless and begins to nest and pace around. Her rectal temperature will usually drop from a normal of 101.5 to below 99. You should have a clean, dry, comfortable house or area for her to deliver in. Labor contractions will usually cause her to lie down. After her water breaks and hard labor begins, she will usually deliver a puppy within 1-2 hours. About 25 of Euppies come backwards or with rear legs first, so don't e alarmed if this happens. If this labor continues longer than two hours and nothing comes, then you should get a hold of your veterinarian. Sometimes a C-Section is required re-quired for the life of the mother and the puppies. After the puppy is born, the mother will usually lick off the membranes and chew through the umbilical cord. If she doesn't, then you will have to take care of this. She may start to eat the afterbirth, but it is best not to allow her to, as sometimes the mother can get really sick from it. The next pup should come within a few minutes or 1-2 hours. Again if she has contractions for up to two hours between pups and nothing comes, then she should be checked. Sometimes her uterine muscles get weak or tired and require an injection to stimulate them for stronger contractions. If before, during or after the deliver, the mother dog exhibits vomiting, real weakness, fever or a real bloody discharge, she could have a dead pup in there and this can be very life threatening. Since you will have poodle pups, they need to have their tails and dewclaws removed at 3-5 days of age. Many deliveries are uncomplicated, but if you have any questions, be sure and contact your veterinarian. all across the state of Utah such as silver and semi-precious jewelry, specialty desserts, home decor including includ-ing antiques and linens, one of a kind pottery pieces and the Hill House line of home fragrances.
