I rm graduated from Springville Spring-ville High School and LDS Seminary Semi-nary and attended both the University Uni-versity of Utah and Brigham Young University, graduating tiom UVU with a BFA in music, dance and theater. She has been involved in many musical and dance productions locally, with Promised Valley Productions in Salt lake City and with The I ii realm Center for the Arts in Si (icorge. She arrived in New York City in September of 2000 where she was cast as obligate) soloist in the anniversary revival of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in the Downtown Cabaret Theater, site of the original origi-nal production of "Joseph" before it became a Broadway hit. This was followed by a summer season sea-son at California Musical Theater in Sacramento. She began her tour with "Phantom" "Pha-ntom" in October of this year. It is the fulfillment of a long-time dream she had since she first saw the production at the age of 14. Alexis Miner, 20, of Springville, Spring-ville, was crowned Miss UVSC, Ian 1 5, in the Ragan Theater and will go on to compete in the Miss I 'tali Pageant in June. "All of the girls are wonderful, wonder-ful, but we are excited to have Alexis represent our school," said f.on Houston, director of the Nfi-s Utah Scholarship Pageant. " Miner graduated from Salt Lake Community College with high honors and was awarded scholastic scholarships from UVSC and BYU Idaho. Currently. Current-ly. Miner is studying pre-pharma- at UVSC with hopes of continuing con-tinuing her education at the Uni-vefsiiv Uni-vefsiiv of Utah in pharmacology. l or the last year. Miner has bivn a member of the UVSC hillnHm dance tour team and a as a member of student government govern-ment from 1998 to 2000. Miner's other accomplishments accomplish-ments include: winning a non-finalist non-finalist scholarship in physical fitness and personal interviewing in the Miss Springville Pageant, ranking in the top finalists of the Moab half marathon and participating partici-pating in the Springville High School show choir and drill team. Miner currently work as a gemologist's apprentice and a licensed pharmacy technician. Since 1981, young women ages 17 to 24, have participated in the annual Miss UVSC Scholarship Schol-arship Pageant. The winner of the pageant is awarded an educational scholarship. Seven students participated in the pageant competing in four events: talent showcase, personal interview, eveningwear and physical fitness in swimwear. It was an intense full day of dance classes. They learned everything from ballet and tap to theater, from top choreogra phers and performers from Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Canada. Valley symphony salutes Olympics The Utah Valley Symphony's concert next week will salute the Olympics with a guest violinist soloing on Vivaldi's "Winter," plus the premiere of a symphony commissioned especially for the Olympics. Clark Parkinson, a Provo native who has enjoyed a successful career as a professional profession-al musician since age 12, will be guest soloist in three movements from "Winter" (Concerto in F-Minor), F-Minor), from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons." Parkinson, who was a youth soloist with both the Utah Symphony Sym-phony and Utah Valley Symphony, Sympho-ny, graduated in violin performance perfor-mance from BYU and UCLA and also attended Peabody Conservatory.
