We are very sorry that this service has been discontinued discon-tinued since it gave our patrons a wider variety of library materials to choose from, and we will miss the Provo patrons who used the Springville Library with courtesy and respect. Effective immediately, our out-of-town card prices will be raised to $50. Don't forget Amnesty Month! You will have until July 31 to bring in over due books and materials with a can of food for each $5 that you owe in fines. This is such a good time to wipe the slate clean and be able to check out books again. All food will go to the Food Bank to help those who need it. So don't procrastinate because on August 1, you will again have to pay fines with cold hard cash. In the late 1970s, research showed the artificial sweetener, used in foods and popular diet soft drinks such as Tab, produced bladder tumors in laboratory rats. The National Institute of Environmental Heathy Sciences says studies now show that the old research is not "relevant "rele-vant to the human situation," and so has removed saccharin from its like of known carcinogens. However, the 9th National Toxicology Toxi-cology Report on Carcinogens now lists alcoholic drinks, sunlamps sun-lamps and tanning beds and tobacco as cancer-causing agents. The report says tobacco is known to cause cancer when smoke is either inhaled directly or in secondhand sec-ondhand form, or used in smokeless smoke-less form.
