Show These men were brave enough to come out for the Springville High School Alumni Football game last week against Payson. They all attended SHS between 1982 and 1989 and for some it had been that long since they had donned a jersey and shoulder pads. But the Devils proved they are the best again as they beat SHS alumni win battgame Saturday, August 8, a group of brave alumni of the Springville High School Football Team gathered to play a game against the Payson Football Alumni. Sometimes parents are very active in the Parent-Teachers Association when their kids are in the elementary schools, but as the kids get older participation in the PTA drops a little. The officers of the Springville High School PTA want parents to know that SHS has an active PTA organization that is making a difference. Last year the SHS j PTA had 140 members, but they need more. Last year PTA members at the high school donated over 275 volunteer hours to the school. PTA sponsored activities included assisting with class registration; assisting with Parent-Teacher Conferences; holding a seminar by Dr. Lynn Scoresby on helping kids to succeed in school; holding a Teacher Appreciation luncheon; conducting the Reflections Contest; Con-test; holding the first Career Day for high school students; Voter Registration for senior students with 150 registered to vote; helped with senior graduation pictures; and Freedom Festival Essay contest. The group also awarded two scholarships of $400 each at the Academic Awards night. Parents are invited to join the high school PTA. It only costs $3.50 per member and is easy to include with your school registration. registra-tion. Every school has its own membership and needs your support, but don't forget the high school if you have students there. Joy school preschool Based on the best-selling book Teaching Children Joy, by Linda and Richard Eyre, "Joy Schools" consist of neighborhood pre-, school groups, organized by mothers who rotate as teacher. A detailed and complete curriculum cur-riculum and monthly "lesson plan manual" of over 100 pages is furnished to every Joy School, complete with an audio tape and newsletter for each family. Lesson Les-son plans include all cut-outs, pictures, songs and supplements to make lesson preparation quick and easy for busy mothers. The program functions like a non-profit co-op where each member family pays a tiny share of the materials' costs. Joy Schools now exist throughout the U.S. and in several sever-al foreign countries. They appeal especially to parents who want to become more involved in their children's education and who do not want to turn their children over to institutional care. There is also an economic attraction: GIFT PLUS S Joy Schools cost about one tenth of the average commercial nursery nurs-ery school or day care rate. Each month, Joy Schools concentrate on a separate kind of physical, social, emotional or mental type of joy. One month the subject matter for the lesson plans is based on "The Joy of the Earth," another month on "The Joy of Sharing and Service", and another month on "The Joy of Individual Confidence and Uniqueness." There are ten "units" in the nine month school year. Children who attend Joy School are prepared pre-pared socially and emotionally as well as mentally for entry into kindergarten. Sandra Bastian who resides in Spanish Fork, has been appointed "Area Coordinator" for the Joy School program in the Spanish Fork, Springville and Salem areas. Those desiring further information infor-mation may call Sandra at 798-6835. |
