Show FISH AND GAME HIGHLIGHTS Department of fish and game spokesmen today reminded anglers that the new 1959 general angling orders go into effect on waters throughout the state this week. Fishing hours and bag limits remain re-main the same as for the year just passed, it was pointed out, but several new regulations go into effect with the tolling of the bells for the new year. Among new regulations, it was said, are relaxed bait restrictions and a number of new waters opened open-ed to year round, 24-hour a day fishing. The special season on rocky mountain whitefish, now in progress, pro-gress, will continue under the new regulations, until Feb. 15, 1959. Copies of the 1959 angling proclamation proc-lamation will be available within a short time from license vendors throughout the state. Department spokesmen once a-gain a-gain reminded sportsmen that the 1958 combination or general license lic-ense should be displayed at all times while fishing until the new license year begins April 16, 1959. Less than a week remains for waterfowl hunters to brave the winds and winter weather of Utah marshlands. The 198 waterfowl season for ducks and geese, one of the longest long-est on record, comes to a close on January 6, 1959, at 5:16 p.m. while a nine day extended season for coot only swings into effect until January 15 at 5:25 p.m. Courses leading 'toward an instructor's in-structor's rating in survival training train-ing will again be offered this winter win-ter at various locations throughout the state, including the colleges and universities, according to department depart-ment spokesmen. Dates and meeting places for the ten week course of instruction are as follows: Mondays, beginning January 12, Utah State University (Smart Gym); Tuesdays, beginning January 13, Weber College (Biology (Bio-logy Lab); Thursdays, beginning January 1 5, University of Utah (Spencer Hall, Room 213); Fridays, Fri-days, beginning January 9, Roosevelt Roose-velt City Hall; Saturdays, beginning begin-ning January 10, Castle Dale. 1 he class in survival training is designed as part of a program to prepare all first time hunters for safe enjoyment of outdoor recreation recrea-tion under all conditions. The Department today made known the delivery at . headquarters of a new 1959 Super Cub Tandem two-place airplane. The new plane brings to three the number of aircraft owned by the department. The new craft, to be headquartered at Tremonton, will be used to implement the extensive ex-tensive program of game census, aerial surveys and fish planting carried on by the department. . O |
