Show MAN INJURED AS AUTO UPSETS A Bingham mine worker was critically injured at 5:25 a.m. last Friday near West. Jordan when his car went out of control, flipped end-over-end six times and came to rest 300 feet from the road. Listed in "critical" condition in Salt Lake General Hospital was Oliver H. Callegos, 30, 4849 W. 5015 South,' Kearns. He suffered a compound fracture frac-ture of the left ankle, multiple facial lacerations and possible brain and internal injuries. Investigating Deputy Sheriffs Don Smith and Pete Kutulas said the mishap occurred two miles west of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad tracks on U-48. The road was free of ice at the time. The victim, alone in his car, was eastbound when he apparently lost control of the car. Officers said the victim stayed with the bouncing bounc-ing automobile then was thrown out just ten feet from where it stopped. A spare tire was found 60 feet from the car and one of the victim's vic-tim's shoes was located 40 feet a-way, a-way, officers said. The roof of the hardtop style auto was partially torn off and the rear wheels and axle, ripped from their mounts, were found laying across the front wheels forming an X shape. |
