Show DVU Alumni Association honors SE3S teacher C Iff VT 1 I oicvcn w. naaerne, a chemistry teacher at Springville Spring-ville High School, has been awarded the 1990 Excellence in Teaching Award by the 1990 Excellence in Teaching wara oy me Bngham Young University Alumni Association. This is the seventh year for the award, given by the Alumni Association in conjunction con-junction with the Student Alumni Board, to honor excellence in high school teaching. "Brigham Young University has appreciated the continued efforts of high school teachers all over the country who have committed themselves to excellence ex-cellence in teaching in order to prepare their students for work, university study and life," said Ida Smith, co-'ordinator co-'ordinator of the program. In selecting teachers for the honor, nine high schools were chosen (two within Utah and seven out of state) and ballots were sent to BYU students who have graduated from those schools asking them to name the three high school teachers, in order of preference, who had the greatest impact on their education. A total of 33 teachers were named by the Springville High School graduates, and 16 of those teachers were named as "best teacher I ever had." Haderlie graduated from BYU with a master's degree in chemistry. He has been teaching teach-ing chemistry at Sm-ineville High School since 1977. During! Von Vogonon announces Marie F. Haderlie is concerned that all students have an opportunity oppor-tunity for a rigorous chemistry experience, not just a select few. He knows well the importance of each student's having a solid background in the sciences. Haderlie spends .hours outside class helping each student unerstand the concepts being taught.
