Sight-seeing was an enjoyable part of the tour hut the main objective was to take a ride on the D&KG railroad before it stopped running. The group returned by plane to Salt Lake and then home by bus. Odessa M. Nelson was tour director, assisted by her husband Boyd. They saw the Air Force Academy, museum. U.S. mint, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak and other attractions. at-tractions. Loyd Bird is home from Utah Valley Hospital where he spent ten days following surgery. Blood pressure clinic is scheduled Wednesday .luneii. from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. All should plan to k' as early as possible, and are invited to stay for dinner. Floss Phillips is back home again following a months stay at Utah Valley Hospital. She has liecn missed in senior citizen activities but expects to be back soon. Clara Sumsion has returned to her home following t e n - d a y treatment at Utah Valley Hospital for a heart condition. She spent a lew days with son Robert Sumsion and wife and is now at her home doing very well. Memberships in the Springville - Mapleton senior citizen organization is well over the 7(Ki mark and is expected ex-pected to reach near 800 within the next few weeks. Alton P. Thomas is memlx'rship chairman and all desiring to take advantage of the many programs offered seniors are urged to contact her at the Center and get a member ship card. Upon completion of his junior year in High School, Kent will leave for Ft. Leonard Wood Mo., where he will attend a 6 week Basic training course afterwards -he will attend a 6 week course in Heavy Equipment Operation. Upon completion com-pletion of his 12 week training, he will return to complete his senior year in high school. "I really enjoy being a part of the National Guard," Kent said, "because of the opportunity op-portunity and training available to me." During his two months of Kent Fowden Park, offering all kinds of laked goods, home-made rugs, paintings and other items to the public. Director Tippetts is asking all who desire to become involved with this community project, to have their pies, cakes, cookies, rolls, etc, at the Center early the day of the parade, June 9. Bernice Cranmer is in charge of arrangements and will supply other details. Special recreation classes for senior citizens are being organized to take place after the daily dinners on specified days. A recreational expert will conduct the classes on excerises and routines to improve the health of older people. The classes will be free. Further information will be announced an-nounced at the daily dinners. A new class in embroidering em-broidering quilts is now being offered the center and already several beautiful quilts have been made. Thelma Beardall is iastrugtor and the lessons are free. Gragun honored by district Joan Grangun, a Springville area bus driver for the Nebo School District, was among three school employees honored at a luncheon at the Oakcrest Inn on May 23. Mrs. Gragun was named Bus Driver of the Year. Also honored at the luncheon were Mrs. Ruth Gardner, employee at the Lake Shore Elementary School, and Robert Finch, a custodian at Taylor Elementary School in Payson. The May citizens of the Month are: Eighth grade: Christine Bartholomew and John Crandall. Christine is the daughter of Michael and Barbara Bartholomew. She is 13 years old. Chris loves to sing, write, and loves art. Her favorite school subject is Math. Chris plans to go to college after high school. John is 13 years old. His favorite hobbies are tennis and basketball. (.add. also of Springville. to become an attorney someday. John is the son of Robert and LaRae Crandall. Ninth grade: Jill Perkins and Kent Gledhill. Jill is the daughter of Jay and Gloria Perkins. She is 15 years' old. Her favorite hobbies are skiing, both snow and water. Jill's favorite school subject is Math, and she would like to work in a medical field. Kent is the son of David and Joy Gledhill. Kent is 15. His favorite hobbies are all sports, sleeping and eating. His favorite school subjects are Math, P.E., and Drama. The new officers were installed at the PTA meeting held Friday, May 18, 1979, at the school. The various classes, each ' performed by singing 2 numbers for the parents and PTA members. Thanks was given to Glenna Prior, the past President, for the job she has done. She presented Principal R. Dean Rowley with a new camera for the school and also a check to pay for several improvements made in the school during the year. It was a very enjoyable evening and the faculty and staff of Brookside School express our thanks for all the help and support given our school this year. Those desiring a greater understanding of a particular area may wish to take one of the "Mini" tape tours focusing on the card catalogue, the maps and gazetteers area, the microforms area, and family and local histories.
