"Our goal was $3,800, but our friends and neighbors neigh-bors pulled through again and gave us an . extra $120.00," Pastor Clarence Philpott said. The project was begun in October of 1978 and was designed to run through the holiday season and 'into the Spring of the year. When all reports are totaled, the world church hopes to raise more than $16 million in the year's 70th annual World Service Appeal. The money is raised by thousands of unpaid volunteers and is then processed through the existing channels of the church in order to cut administrative costs, , Philpott said. Money goes to support the Adventist Church's community service, disaster relief, educational and medical services in 193 nations. In the medical field alone, the church operates nearly 400 hospitals, clinics, medical launches and airplanes. Former resident in bishopric Darrell Erickson, a former resident of Springville, was sustained Sunday March 18th as second counselor in the newly formed Tacoma, Washington seventh Ward. He is the son of M. Fred and Myrtle Erickson of Springville. His wife is the former Ruth Wentz who also lived here. They are the parents of six children. Don Gottfredson, tenor, to perform at Art Ball Don Gottfredson, tenor, a native of , Springville, will perform at the upcoming up-coming Springville Art Ball scheduled March 30. Don has performed for more than 35 years in the Utah County area. He has sung leading tenor roles in operas and choral groups at Brigham Young University and Utah State University, He has performed' . as featured soloist on the KSL Radio "Church, of the Air" broadcast in Salt Lake City and is past member of the Mormon Tabernacle Taber-nacle Choir. Denise Beech Benington, a native of South Africa, will be performing a solo rendition ren-dition of flamenco dancing. dan-cing. Denise began dancing when she was three years old. At the age of 16, after many years of taking first place in , the Dance Festival Eisteddfords of South Africa, she once again took first place, but this time in the Senior championships; and there after was the reigning South African champion of Spanish Dance, a title she still holds. It was at the age, 16, that she became a professional dancer. She was born and raised in Johannesburg where her father is a construction engineer. Denise came to Brigham Young University with her husband Brian, who is also from Johannesburg, and is a dance major. Denise acquired her interest in dance from her mother who was a ballroom dance teacher. She has taught dancing since she was 16 and at 21 had a partnership with a teacher she trained under. un-der. During this time she danced with a Spanish dance company and became the prima donna (leading dancer) with them. She also studied dance for three and one half months in Madrid, Spain.
