Show Page Six - The Springville Herald - March Carrie Carrie Clegg to wed April 6 Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clegg announce the forthcoming for-thcoming marriage of their daughter. Carrie, to Mr. Kirk P. Jones of Salt Lake City. Parents of the prospective groom are Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Jones of Atlanta, Georgia. The wedding will take place April 6 at Hobble Creek Inn. A reception will follow that same evening from 7 to 9 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. at-tend. Miss Clegg graduated from Springville High School and Springville Seminary and attended Utah State University where she was in the honors program. Mr. Jones graduated from Highland High School and the University of Utah. Following a honeymoon in San Diego, California the young couple will make their home in Salt Lake City where both are employed. Young-Homemakers give $100 to scholarship fund The Young Homemakers club of Springville has pledged $100 to the Miss Springville Pageant scholarship fund. The young Homemakers of Springville is part of a statewide organization, with Janine Murdock serving as Springville chapter president. Alpha Theta, sponsors of the Miss Springville Pageant were pleased with the help of the Young Homemakers. The Young Homemakers is just one of many organizations and businesses that are helping with the Miss Springville scholarship fund. If any organization or business is interested in helping with the scholarship fund they may contact Sandy Riser 489-4188. Home Culture holds meet Home Culture Club met at the home of Mrs. Ronald Thorpe on March 16. Mrs. Cleonda Miner was co-hostess. Mrs. Bill Kapp, president, welcomed club members and guests. Mrs. Angus Hales was elected president for the coming year, with Mrs. Howard Sumsion, vice president; and Mrs. Howard Sanford, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Sherman Christensen of American Fork . presented the program on "Solar Energy Update." She represented Utah Power and Light. Business included reading of the club collect by Mrs. Waldo Jackson; Pledge of Allegiance, led by Mrs. Howard Sumsion; Sum-sion; a report by Mrs. Lenard Harward on a Provo City sponsored self-defense protection program to which all federated club women are invited. Other business included a report by Mrs. Harrison Conover on the Women's Legislative Council meeting; and report that the Nebo rst District Spring Convention will be held April 21 in Spanish Fork. It was voted that the new club president and program chairman should represent the club at that meeting. Mrs. Marcellus Nielson of Spanish Fork was a guest. . Next meeting will be held April 20 at the home of Mrs. Clair Judd with Mrs. Wendell Nielson as co-hostess. 22, 1979 Sh March 30 The Annual Sew Show will be held in Provo, at the Provo City Center (359 West Center) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, March 30. It is for everyone. The Sew Show is sponsored by Utah State University Extension Ex-tension Service. A common problem, "Fitting and Pattern Alteration," will be presented by Ronda Olsen and Theta Johnson. Plan to attend the show and encourage others to come with you. For further information, in-formation, please call the USU Extension Service at 377-2797. Ronda H. Olsen is a native of Beaver. She attended Southern Utah State College and Utah State . University, graduating from USU in 1972 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. After teaching Home Ec. for two years in Beaver, she returned to graduate school at the University of Arizona in Tucson. While completing her M.S. degree in Clothing and Textiles, she worked as a teaching assistant. Presently Ronda is employed by USU as the Uintah County Extension Home Economist. Theta Johnson is Extension Ex-tension Clothing Specialist. She is known throughout the state because of workshops held in each county, state meetings, and TV programs. She is a graduate of USU in Textiles and Clothing and studied at Columbia University Teachers College where she received her M.A. in Textiles and Clothing. Ronda Olsen Theta Johnson Homemakers hear about landscaping The Springville Young Homemakers met recently and held their March meeting. The guest speaker was Eldon Cannon from Green Acres in Orem. Mr. Cannon gave an . excellent presentation on landscaping land-scaping techniques. Light refreshments were served and the meeting was well attended. The next meeting will be held April 5 at the high school. Fashion is only the attempt to realize art in living forms and social intercourse. SpUvpdU Kristeen Black to wed David Reid Mr. and Mrs. George W. Black are pleased to announce an-nounce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Kris to Dave Reid, son of Karen R. Reid, of Carpenteria, California. They have chosen April 26 for their marriage, to be followed by a reception at the Springville Museum of Art. Ceremony will be at 6 p.m.; reception from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. , Miss Black graduated from Springville High School and LDS Seminary. She was active in Pep Club, Thespians, and Acappella Choir. She will graduate in the fall from Utah Technical College with a two-year certificate in Drafting and Design. Dave is a graduate of Santa Barbara High School where he participated in basketball. He attended Santa Barbara Junior College and also Ricks College. He is now presently employed with Provo City Shade Tree Dept. An open house will also be given May 5 in Carpenteria, Car-penteria, California. Kristeen Black, David E. Reid Grace Martindale to be feted on 80th birthday An open house has been slated for Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the 80th birthday of Grace Loveridge Martindale. The event will be held at her located at 54 N. 100 E., Springville. Mrs. Martindale was born Mar. 24, 1899 in Springville to John S. and Agatha A.. Fullmer. Her father was killed in a mine accident before her birth and her mother died when she was six years old. Together with her sisters, she lived with her brother Dell Fullmer and his family in Springville until her marriage. She married Joseph L. Loveridge on July 16, 1916 in Farmington. The marriage was later solemnized in Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Bingham Canyon until 1919 when they moved back to Springville. He Grace L. There is little less trouble in governing a private family than a whole kingdom. Montaigne aim & died Mar. 3, 1948. She married Ted Martindale on Dec. 29, 1955 in St. George. He died Oct. 17, 1962. Mrs. Martindale worked at Utah State Hospital for 13 years. She is an active Relief Society teacher in the LDS Churchjhas held positions in many , auxiliary organizations, and spent many hours working in the Temple. She is a member of the Utah DUP, the Et Renous and Mother's Study Clubs, and Springville Senior Citizen. She has one son and four daughters, Richard Loveridge, Mrs. Owen (Bethe) Lambson, Mrs. Reed (Leslie) Francis, Mrs. Virgil (Nola) Stubbs, and Mrs. LaMar (Carol Jean) Clark; 29 grandchildren; and 53-great-grandchildren. In the history it was noted that he was fifth cousin to Joseph Smith, fifth cousin to Grover Cleveland, fourth cousin to Daniel Webster-a smithy by trade; moved from Vermont to West Bloomfield, New York. Had limited schooling-here schooling-here he learned the skill of being a "Potter". Was baptized into LDS Church in 1832-was the president of the branch when he became member of the Church. Married, his wife Vilate, took the two children of Brigham Young to rear when his wife died. Went on a mission to England with Orson Hyde, Wilford Woodruff and others in 1837, was very fruitful in preaching the gospel. When he returned from his mission, entered into polygamy with the consent of his wife, was father of 34 sons, had 17 wives. When there was contention as to whom should be president of the Church when the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred, he sustained Brigham Young as President in preference to Sidney Rigdon. Was a member of the twelve appostles until his death. Lesson, Freighting and Freighters was given by Mary S. Boyer, lesson leader.
