Perhaps home sewers are faced with too many choices today, but home sewing has become an important hobby and sewers seem to want many choices. It takes time to shop for fabrics and accessories, acces-sories, but many sewing products prod-ucts are packaged with directions direc-tions for laundering. Look for these services when you shop. When care instructions are not included it's a good idea to prevent problems by preshrinking zippers and testing questionable trimmings, trim-mings, and fabrics for color-fastness color-fastness and shrinking before be-fore starting to sew. Consumers Want to Know by MARGARET SPADER Director of Consumer Affairs National Association of Manufacturers . Why do refrigerator manufacturers manu-facturers use such cheap quality trim on these appliances? appli-ances? Considerable research has been done on materials used in refrigerators because many items stored in this appliance ap-pliance will stain or pit metal, and plastic, regardless of the quality used. Fruit juices, milk and medicines will stain or pit most surfaces, regardless regard-less of quality. Spills should be wiped away immediately. Frequent thorough washing and drying will help keep trims looking like new. My washing machine is practically prac-tically a museum piece and I'd like to replace it but the more J shop the more confused con-fused I get. Where can I go for help? First, find a reliable appliance appli-ance dealer, one who has served neighbors, friends or relatives well. Describe the kind of laundry you have ; for instance, heavily soiled clothes, football uniforms, etc. call for a heavy duty cycle and a pre-wash or soak setting. set-ting. If most of your laundry is permanent press, the dealer deal-er can show you models that offer cycles that avoid unnecessary un-necessary wrinkling. If the water pressure is low at your house, the dealer should know this, too. By giving the dealer your special needs, he can select models that will do the best job for you. Gas and electric utilities can also be helpful if you have wiring or hot water problems. What's the best kind of ventilating venti-lating system for a kitchen? The most efficient system for a kitchen will remove grease carried by steam before be-fore it can settle on kitchen surfaces. Ducted hood fans for over the range do the most efficient job. The straighter the duct system, the more efficient effi-cient and economical will be the ventilating job. TRANSPORTATION KEY? Legal Notices Probate and Guardianship Notices Consult County Clerk or the Respective Signers for Further Information Legal notice Bids will be accepted by Mapleton City on a 1968 Chevrolet four door Station Wagon. The bids will be opened at 8:00 p.m. at the regular City Council MEETING ON July 18, 1972. The automobile may be inspected by contacting Kent Wheeler or Neil Steiner. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids. (These bids were originally due to be considered con-sidered on July 5, 1972 but the council postponed the opening until July 18, 1972.) City Recorder Harold Gividen Published in the Springville Herald July 13, 1972. Little moisture despite few thunder showers A few isolated thunderstorms were reported this past week but accumulated amounts of moisture were very small-generally small-generally limited to less than 1-10 1-10 inch; most of the reporting stations recorded none. Of 39 reporting stations only 4 reported measureable amounts. Average temperatures for the week ranged from near normal to 6 degrees above. This combination com-bination of high temperatures and lack of moisture intensified the serious drouth conditions which have persisted for the past six months. The accumulation of growing degree days since the first of March continues well above normal ranging generally between 200 to 400 degree days above. Soil temperatures at the 4 inch depth rose considerably this past week and now range from the upper 70's in Cache Valley to near 80 in Salt Lake City and Richfield and the mid 90's in Utah's Dixie. As was mentioned last week, July, in the United States is normally the warmest month of the year, but there have been some interesting events associated with this month's weather. Yesterday, July tenth, was the 59th anniversary of the hottest temperature ever recorded in the United States. This temperature 134 degrees was recorded at Greenland Ranch in California. By contrast, con-trast, a volcanic eruption at Tomboro in April 1815 pushed so much volcanic dust into the air that it is thought to have been responsible for the famous cold summer of 1816. Frost occurred during every month of that year in New England and summer snowstorms were reported as far south as Massachussets. In Utah, one of the coolest summers sum-mers of record occurred in 1906 when the temperature averaged 68.6 for the three summer months. Summers, of course, are periods when thunderstorms have produced some very unusual events. According to the records in Charleston, South Carolina, an alligator fell from a thunderstorm on Anson Street on July 2, 1843; while in Buffalo a fish fall was reported on the 6th of July in 1819. Provo Canyon: Hi max 98 on 8th; lo min 53 on 5th; average temp 75. ON UNEMPLOYMENT The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the unemployment rate for April at almost 6 per cent. The rate has remained unchanged un-changed for 18 months. Np FOR FAST AUCTION 1 CLASSIFIED AD RATES 5 lines or less, $1.00 rerun 50c per week.
