Show Page Six The Springville Herald September 27, 1973 I it, . f-. w Wf VI Mrs. Craig Betty Rigby, Craig Hatfield speak vows in Manti Temple Betty Rigby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Rigby, of this city, became the bride of Craig Hatfield in rites solemnized Friday, September 7th, in the Manti IDS Temple. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cloid Hatfield, also of Springville. The ceremony was performed by John Meyers. A reception honoring the couple was hosted on the evening of their wedding day in the Springville LDS Stake Center by the parents of the bride. The new Mrs. Hatfield greeted her many friends and relatives in a gown of white lace over satin. Its beauty was enhanced by a lace waited bodice with high niecline encrusted with seed pearls. Accenting the beauty were full sleeves with elbos cuffs, also trimmed with pearls, and a full skirt with eight lace tiers of lace forming a long train. Her bouquet was of pink carnations, red roses, and had red, green, and pink streamers. Attending her was a cousin, Kim Tipton, as maid of honor, with Terri Ann Rigby, Larri Lyn Rigby, Mary Dene Walters, Wendy Lee Walters, and Lara Lynn Ostler, all nieces of the newlyweds, as bridesmaids. They wore full length gowns of pink and white gingham check with white and green flocked flowers, empire waistlines, and carried nosegays of small mums sprayed red and pink with pink, red and green streamers. The mothers of the bridal couple wore gowns of light pink knit with high waistlines and dark pink trim around necklines and waists. They had corsages of 5 pink carnations and red roses. - Acting as best man was Keith Dallin, with Alan Robertson as groomsman. Greeting guests at the door were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Rigby and Mr.and Mrs. Jerry Hatfield. At the guest register were Mrs. Robert Averett, and Joette Hatfield. Supervising the gift room were Mrs. Bruce Rigby, Mrs. Lewis Walters, and Mrs. Elvin Ostler. Assisting with the serving of refreshments were Lynette Cram, Joanne Dean, Peggy Smith, Sheli Johnson, and Janet Nightengale. The wedding cake display was formed by two cakes, each three layers high, with a temple on one and bride and groom on the other. They were decorated with pink flowers and mirrors. A special guest for the occasion was Mrs. Alma Fullmer, a grandmother of the bride. The newlyweds are making their home in Springville. HISTORICAL COLLECTION by imperial Springville 7 Local woman, companion tour Europe Mrs. Elsie Allman of this city and Mrs. Jane Jones of Cedar City returned recently from a vacation in Europe. They visited eight countries in their three-week three-week jaunt, described as "hectic but a great experience." The pair enjoyed extensive sight-seeing in London, Paris, Rome, and many other cities. They visited many famous cathedrals and museums, including in-cluding the Louvre, at Paris, Westminster Abbey in London, Notre Dame in Paris, and St. Peter's in Rome. They were thrilled to see Michaelangelo's Pieta, completely intact and beautiful since suffering recent damages. Also, they enjoyed a Tyrolean Folk Dancers festival at In-nesbruck, In-nesbruck, Austria, traveled down the Rhine river and visited many castles there. They traveled over the country where the Battle of The Bulge was fought in World War II and were especially impressed by the huge American War Memorial at Bastogne, Belgium. They flew home from Amsterdam Am-sterdam on a huge 747 jet liner. This was a "beautiful flight over Greenland". Enroute they witnessed a spectacular sunset from 35,000 feet in altitude at about midnight Mrs. Emma Long enjoys visit in California Mrs. Emma Long returned this week from the Long Beach, California, where she enjoyed a two-week stay. She was a houseguest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Daniels. The Daniels were here for a visit earlier and Mrs. Long returned to the coast with them. They had visited friends and relatives at Provo, Salt Lake and Springville. Aureole Club holds first fall meeting The Aureole Club held its first regular meeting of the season Wednesday, September 19th, at the Club Room. The Club officers were the hostesses. There were 13 members present and a delicious lunch was served. The Day Family gave a very delightful musical program. Raulston, also of Springville. The couple will recite wedding vows on Friday, October 5. An open house honoring them will be held the same evening from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Relief Society room in the Kolob Stake House, 600 East 500 South. All friends and relatives of the couple are invited to attend the open house. No further invitations will be sent Alpha Beta Club holds first meeting of fall Members of the Alpha Beta Club met Friday, September 21st, at the Social Center in Spanish Fork, for their first meeting of the fall season. Mrs. Rhoda G. Hales, the club president welcomed members and guests. Club yearbooks were distributed by the program committee members, Mrs. Sterling Price, Mrs. W. W. Janet Scharman, Blaine Randall Thorn Texas girl to wed Randall Thorn in Salt Lake LDS Temple rites The engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Janet Scharman, to Blaine Randall Thorn, is announced by Mr. and Mrs. George H. Scharman, of Dallas, Texas. The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine R. Thorn of Springville. The young couple will exchange marriage vows Wednesday, October 3rd, in rites to be solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A reception in their honor will be hosted by the parents of the groom that evening in the Springville Art Museum. Their many friends and relatives may call on them at that place and date between the hours of 7:30 and 10:00 p.m. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Richardson High School in Dallas. She is a junior year student at the Brigham Young University and plans to continue her education. The groom-elect is a graduate of the Springville High School and is a senior year student at the BYU. He served a two-year mission in North Germany. He plans to enroll in dental school after graduation from BYU. The couple will make their home in Provo following their marriage. ... .... Modern Mothers Club holds first meeting The opening social and first meeting of the Modern Mothers Club was held Wednesday evening, September 19th, at the home of President, Una Bryan. Donna Huntington was co-hostess. co-hostess. A delicious meal was served on the patio. The Bryan's beautiful back yard has been described by one of the little neighborhood girls as, "like it must be in the Garden of Eden." The ladies went inside to see slides and heard many interesting in-teresting things about Brazil from Jim Averett who had recently returned from there. He showed a few of the sourveniers he brought home and told us of the people, their customs and a few missionary experience. The President discussed the coming year and the programs planned. A special guest for the evening was Mrs. Shirley Averett The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday at the home of Ann Bartlett It will be a "Taste and tell" evening. Each lady will bring a tasty dish and a recipe. The lesson was given by class leader Ileen Coffman. The history of John Betts was given by Mrs. Snelson. Fourteen members were in attendance. Light refreshments were served. DUP Camp Spring Creek holds first fall meet Camp Spring Creek of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their first fall meeting last week at the home of Mrs. Violet Diamond. Captain Josephine Conover presided. Fourteen members and two guests from Austrailia were present. A history of John Fleming Wakefield, was read by a granddaughter, Mrs. Lucille Johnson. The lesson the The Year 1873 was given by Philda Finley. The hostesses were Wanda Roskelly, and Mrs. Diamond. Refreshments were served. Home Culture Club at first autumn meeting The opening meeting of the Home Culture Club was held last Friday afternoon in Provo, at the lovely new condiminimum home of Mrs. Earl Cook with Mrs. Waldo Jackson assisting hostess. President Mary Sanford conducted the meeting and welcomed all present. The pledge of allegience to the flag was given. Mrs. Gladys Judd read the Club Collect. Mrs. Howard Sumsion told of a recent trip she and her husband went on to Alaska. In an interesting in-teresting manner she told many historical facts about Alaska and showed slides which they had taken in the cities where they stopped.. In a short business meeting club members voted to hold one meeting a month this year instead in-stead of two. There will be two hostesses for each meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, delicious refreshments were served to 17 members and one guest, Mrs. LeRoy Giraud of Provo, daughter of Mrs. Cook.i Until it is possible to separate all bicycle riders from auto traffic, caution is indicated.
