Expansion Of Social Units Is Aim At 'Y' Faculty, parent, and tudent representatives are working to perfect a plan to expand the social so-cial unit system at Brlgham Youns university. It was an nounced Saturday by university officials. The expansion program is being be-ing designed to make enough social so-cial units active on campus to satisfy the demands of all the students. At present the number of units Is inadequate to accommodate all of the new girls each year who would like the experience of belonging be-longing to such a social group, officials of-ficials point out. Presidents of the social unit are working with a joint student-faculty student-faculty comittee to devise some plan of expanding the current system. Various groups of unaffiliated students are being encouraged to initiate new movements and older unit members are being asked to serve as organizing committees to get the new groups going. The next in the series of meetings meet-ings on the matter will be held Monday at 3 p. m. Idaho Falls Man Named Frosh Leader In final balloting Friday, Keitn elected president of the freshman class at Brlgham Young university. univer-sity. Other permanent class officers elected- were Kendall Young. Blandlng, vice president: Sally Magleby, Los Angeles, secretary, and Louise Hafen, I'rovo, and Jarrett Jarvis, Mesa, Ariz., class representatives. Mr. Qrme has served as temporary temp-orary chairman for the freshmni class since the beginning of the autumn quarter. H6 va elector in a general assembly of tht freshman class. Miss Hafen and Mr. Jarvis were unopposed in the race for reprt-senative reprt-senative to the student senate. The new officers will direct freshman clas activities for the remainder of the school year. Petitions for Junior Prom chair--man are, due on Dec. 8, according to Jim Hill, election committer chairman. Primary balloting will be held on Dec. 9 and 10. Dr. Harvey Fletcher Visits Y' Campus Dr. Harvey Fletcher, director of physical research at the Bel' telephone laboratories in New York City, was a visitor at Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university recently. Dr. Fletcher, former BYU I physics instructor, was impressed with the size of the new science building and the manner in which it is being constructed, according to Dr. Cart F. Eyring, who directed di-rected the tour of the new building. build-ing. Members of the student health service and speech department met with Dr. Fletcher to discuss latest developments of equipmeri' for testing hearing. The university univer-sity is interested in testing the hearing of all new students and is j formulating plans to establish e clinic for that purpose, according ! to-Dr. Vasco M. Tanner, chairman of the student health committed Y' Chemistry Prof. Elected To Office Professor John H. Wine, chem istry instructor at Brigham Young ; university, was elected vice chair man of the Northwestern Utah section of the American Chemical society at a meeting of the organization organ-ization this week. Dr. Delbert A. -Greenwood of the Utah State Agricultural college col-lege was elected chairman of the society and Dr. Gearec R. Hi! from the University of Utah, secretary. sec-retary.
