Show r 2 Sunday, ppcembpr 5, 1948 SUNDAY HERALD Sp. Fork Power Shortage Feared As Shortages Delay Sub-Station Work By FRANK KING SPANISH FORK Concern for electrical power situation in this city was reflected this week in a report of electrical superintendent, superintend-ent, W. P. Shippoe, which was handed to the city council at their regular session Wednesday. With the present power demand de-mand loading the city's electrical facilities to their limit, delay in Retting critical materials for alleviation alle-viation of this condition is making the situation more tense daily, the report stated. Electrical superintendent Ship-pee Ship-pee stated in his report that work on the new city power substation substa-tion is -progressing as rapidly as the arrival of materials will permit. per-mit. However, unforeseen delays in procuring certain vital materials ma-terials are retarding progress. Care Urged In Power I'se It was indicated hy council members that citizens may cooperate co-operate in alleviation of this power crisis by exercising care in the use of power and reporting report-ing any need foV additional power pow-er in their homes as soon as possible. pos-sible. Economical usage of electricity elec-tricity by turning off lights and appliances when not in use. and using lights or appliances only when necessary will aid greatly it was declared. Refraining from the use of appliances as far as possible and exercising great care during the "peak load" hours of early eveniug will also be of great value, it was pointed out. Superintendent Shippee stated that last month's peak load, a total to-tal of over 1000 KW hours, represents rep-resents an increase of 100 per cent over the peak recorded in 1945. In view of the conditions reflected re-flected by this report it was stated that the ensuing two months may well be the most critical vet in Spanish Fork's electrical power situation. Other Matters Considered Other matters to come before the council were the problems of roiling ordinance enforcement and the possible sale of certain city-owned property to the Palmyra Pal-myra LDS stake and the Second ward for purposes of erecting a new combination ward and stake chapel. Many reports have reached the council of violations of the zoning zon-ing ordinances adopted last spring. In a rumber of instances, property prop-erty owners haw been reported as having shown little or no consideration con-sideration of their neighbors' rights in the erection of homes and business houses, reports said. The council issued a warning statement that future violations of zoning ordinances will not be overlooked and offenders will be punished in accordance with ex isting regulations. Citizens planning plan-ning on building were urged to 'consider the following five points: ' ' Building Regulations 1. Check city zoning map to be sure the type of building to be j erected is legal in the area con-iSidereri. con-iSidereri. 2. Submit plans and specifications specifica-tions to city building inspector for approval and issuance of a building build-ing permit. 3. Make certain that construction- is within the limitations iestablished by ordinances for j front, side, and rear yards before ! actual work begins, i 4. Check with city water, sewage, sew-age, and electric depar'ments to insure the installation of these facilities. 5. Obtain city permission for iconstruction of any curbs, gutters, or sidewalks on city proerty. ! , Church Plans Studied The third important item on the Council agenda this week was a proposal which is now under consideration con-sideration for the erection of the ! proposed new combined Palmyra stake tabernacle and Second LDS Iward chapel building on t,he 'north-east coiner of the city park block. As a result of various reactions re-actions to the erection of this new jbuilding on the site now occupied by the old second ward chapel and Relief Society buildings, ward and stake officials have considered consider-ed various sites and feel that the park location has much to offer. 'No definite decision on this matter mat-ter has been reached. This Gun 'Shoots' the Moon r ... -v- ----- - v-. -?. 2rs?ssF , Jf Lj 1 J " r.
