He caught the Uintah baseball team aft er early burst of runs By Casey Christensen Express Writer Uintah High's baseball team battled through the wind and a 5-0 early game deficit to within two, 6-4 before losing a home game against Wasatch on April 15. The team started off slow, allowing the Wasps to gain a 5-0 lead by the third inning. "Teams get up on us early because we don't get prepared mentally to play," said Head Coach Brent Labrum, on his "v. . V-'. iff '1 Gary Hacking pitches during the Wasp game. Head Coach Brent Labrum said he was proud of the job he did. The team wasn't successful due to an early lapse that allowed the Wasps to build a 5-0 lead. USFS accepting 2008 cave tour applications ' The Ashley National Forest's Vernal Ranger District has opened the application window for the Whiterocks Cave tours taking place on September 6, 13, and 20. Six cave tours limited to a group size of 10 each will be scheduled. Whiterocks Cave tour reservations reser-vations are offered to the public through a lottery system, rather than first come first served, in order to make reservation scheduling more equitable for everyone who applies. The Forest Service says participants par-ticipants must be at least 9 years old and in good physical shape. They were able to shutdown the Wasp offense for the inning, but could not generate gener-ate a score. "We just need to come ready to play and not give up easy runs early," explained the coach. Brodie Ayotte and Pat Hack-inghit Hack-inghit well in the game, and Gary Hacking pitched the second part of the inning, allowing Landon Lucero to rest. Labrum said the 7 turned up a human skeleton. The early game trouble with the mental aspects of the game may have had something to do with the lingering effects of the big win over Union. "We can't play in the future or the past. We have to play on pitch at a time and play in the present." And that's what Uintah will try and do as they face Park City and Judge Memorial for the final times this season. The Judge game will be on April 25 at home at 3 p.m. A possible game of the season Perhaps, most of the problems were caused by the added pressure. pres-sure. Who knows? Nevertheless, the Cougars won the game after exploding for six runs in the first inning. Judging from that game you'd expect more of the same in the upcoming rivalry game on April 29, but a twist has been added. On April 4 Union lost to Wasatch Wa-satch 10-9. The game was pretty close until the Wasps cruised past the Cougars on a six-run sixth inning in-ning rally, creating both a tongue twister and a foundation for the intensity of the latest chapter in tttgs Cougar vs. Uintah story. Why? Well, "Uintah beat the Wasps this week.- In feet, they didn't just beat them, they unloaded un-loaded 10 runs on them. While TV y Hi i i 41 4 d s rm sent. r r rzm mm r Iff I I (L'OS, tllX & (IC. The game between Uintah and Union is a pop fly that could land in either of the team's mitts. This game could be for the region crown. Both teams have only one loss on the region records, re-cords, one lone blemish. It doesn't get much better than this in sports. Two teams - already members of a heated rivalry - will meet up for a chance at taking home first place in the region. We sports fans have a chance to make an impact. If we attend the game and support the Lady Utes who knows what effect we could have on the outcome? We could encourage the girls to the point of lifting them to the top spot or break the focus of the cross basin Cougars. I don't write about the possibilities possi-bilities for one game very often, but I think this one deserves all the hype we can give it. Local sport fans are going to have the chance at a real treat. I'm not sure how it will end, but I know where I'm going to be when the action starts at 3 p.m. I'm sure this game will turnout to be the game of the spring season. kl U V C6NTRHL mm nrfiAcREwcAB 1 r ) i. hi i;fti n) rpHi's ?i U-.ip tw iHismIh only f lniwhl yi;'ywiff'nf3f for?
