The work will take place from July through October, as weather allows. Forest officials said short-term short-term disturbances can be expected expect-ed from July through October, because of construction activity in the area. During stabilization operations, trail users may be detoured or delayed, and visitors may wish to consider alternate destinations. The stabilization project transfers water storage rights from aging reservoirs in the High Uintas Wilderness to the newly expanded Big Sandwash Reservoir, a more modern and accessible location outside of the wilderness area. Stabilization and transfer work on these reservoirs res-ervoirs is among the top priorities for the Ashley National Forest. "Cooperative efforts of individuals, in-dividuals, agencies, and organizations orga-nizations have made last years stabilization of the first three of 13 lakes a success," said R. Brian Paul, high lakes stabilization coordinator. "Through continued support from our cooperators we anticipate fully successful stabilization of all thirteen lakes by 2012." The High Lakes Stabilization Project will continue throughout the summer and fall. The first of 13 the lakes - Farmers, White Miller, and Water Lily Lakes - were stabilized as part of the project in the summer of 2006. Brooke and Mitch Andreasen both competed at the Widow Maker Hill Climb. The hill rose at a 60 percent grade and Mitch was able to climb 288 feet. Brooke was able to climb 100 feet. Andreasen's complete Widow Maker Hill Climb Express Writer Mitch Andreasen, 11, took first place on his CR 80 at the Widow Maker Hill Climb during the last week of June. He also placed seventh in the Altered Class. His sister, Brooke, climbed 100 feet up the hill to earn ninth in the 55-70 division. The Widow Maker is in Cryo-den. Cryo-den. Every year a competition determines who can climb up the steep hill. Andreasen was able to make it up the hill 288 feet. The hill is at about a 60 percent grade and once the decision has been made to start the climb, coming back down without wrecking is nearly impossible explained Andreasen. Despite the height of the and steepness of the hill Andreasen commented, "It doesn't make me nervous. I like the competition. I like hanging out with every one. I want to ride my dad's bike some day." A goal the Andreasen hopes to achieve by next year, so that he can try the real Widowmaker. Which is a 1,000 foot climb up one of the steepest hills in the sport. Phil Andreasen, Mitch's father, fa-ther, tried the hill this year and climbed 359 feet for 25th place. Heexplained, "Only two or three riders even made it over." Mitch continued on to state that he enjoys wrecking. "I love this sport." He added that he can wait until their next competition. 4 u,- rt! ft"1 -1 'Is, Area fishing still strong rampM by Ron Stewart BIG SAND WASH RESERVOIR: RESER-VOIR: Anglers reporting fair to good fishing for rainbow trout. It may be a road that needs closing. On the other hand it may lead just over the hill to your favorite camping site, fishing hole or ATV access location. Currently the Forest Service is gathering information about these kinds of forest offroads before they make final decisions for a new Ashley Forest travel map. To register your road to make sure it is considered for the map contact the Forest Service. Contact the Vernal ranger district office at 789-1 181.
