Uintah Wrestle-Offs decide varsity starters On Nov. 29, members of the Uintah wrestling team faced off to determine this year's varsity squad. At the end of the night the winning wrestler from each of the 14 weight classes became the varsity wrestler for the team. The varsity squad and then-classes then-classes are: Colby Christensen (103), Zack Reynolds (112), Justin Espindola (119), Creedon Merkley (125), Chanse Rinderknecht (130), Jesse. McKee (135), Eric Sharp (140), Kaden Abplanalp (145 unchallenged), unchal-lenged), Justin Curtice (152), Justin Spence (160 unchallenged), unchal-lenged), Jared Ruppe (171), Ben Robinson (189), Nick Merrick (215), and Rusty Farnsworth in the heavyweight class. The varsity team had their first real test on Dec. 1 and 2 at the Millard duals. Each var sity wrestler had ten matches spaced equally over the two days. The team did well finishing finish-ing with a 7-3 record, and tieing for third. Stensgard was disappointed disap-pointed with their first loss, coming at the hands of North Sanpete, stating that the team looked a little rusty. The team, however, redeemed themselves with a tough loss to Millard, the tournament champions. What impressed Stensgard was that he believed Uintah gave the champs their toughest dual of the tournament. Delta was among their most notable 3A wins. There were two team members mem-bers who finsihed the tournament tourna-ment 10-0; Merkley and Curtis. Three wrestlers finished 9-1; Rinderknecht, Abplanalp, and Reynolds. Based on this tour nament Stensgard believes his young team will do well this year. The JV team also had their first tournament over the weekend week-end held at Evanston, Wyo. The tournament was a double bracket style with participants wrestling either JV or varsity. Logan Weaver (112) wrestled in the JV bracket and was able to finish first. Many of Uintah JV team wrestled in the varsity bracket. The bracket was much more competitive, but according accord-ing to Stensgard, it is important for JV wrestlers to compete at such levels so they can understand under-stand what is expected of them. In total, the JV team was able to bring home six medals. Stensgard emphasized that the JV wrestlers are a big part of the team. In Utah, JV team members score points toward i -IT i V.. Vernal Squirt Hockey drops two to Ogden Vernal's Squirt (9 & 10 year-olds) year-olds) hockey team, dropped two games against a very competitive competi-tive Ogden team on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Western Park. The Squirts record now stands at 2-4-1. In the first game, the Squirts came out sluggish and had some last minute position adjustments. In contrast, Ogden came out on fire and put in five skillful goals. The second period, peri-od, the Squirts worked better together and Andres Bowden made some very athletic stops at the goal. Bowden, who is the backbone of the Squirts defense, only allowed three goals in the second period after a constant barrage of shots on goal. In the third period, the Squirts scored their only goal of the day on a breakaway by Colby Birch, and the Wildcats scored two. The contest ended with the game score at 10-1 in favor of the Wildcats. Bowden ended with 16 saves at the net. In the second game of the day, the Squirts again hosted host-ed the Ogden Wildcats and lost a hard fought game 4-0. Regardless of the outcome, coach Zan Bowden and Dave Birch both were happy with how the team stepped up and played more competitively. "The team played better in the second game and showed a lot of heart," Bowden said. "The defensive line-ups really went to work and elevated their level of play." Bowden and Birch were quick also to point out the excellent effort at the net by Wil Woodward with 28 saves of 32 shots on goal. Birch also complimented the players saying, "This is one of WHY DO YOU WANT TO RE-ESTABLISH RE-ESTABLISH YOUR CREDIT? Everyone at sometime can have an unexpected problem damage their credit.
