Moon Lake Electric proposes no rate increase for 2007 Moon Lake Electric's Board of Directors recently approved its 2007 operating budget plans which includes no increase in member rates for the coming year. Board President Richard Ross reports, "Unless some unforeseen event occurs, we will continue to enjoy very competitive rates at Moon Lake, which has been the primary pri-mary goal of the organization. It is gratifying to once again be in a position to meet increasing increas-ing operating expenses while holding the line on rates to our members." Ross pointed out that Moon Lake has not had to raise rates since 1985 and, in fact, member power costs have been lowered since that time. Grant J. Earl, General ManagerCEO, explains, "Holding the line on rates does not mean that the quality of electric service we provide will be negatively impacted. Rather, our plans are to continue contin-ue upgrading our power system facilities to ensure even greater great-er reliability now and in the future." In addition to meeting the demands of a heavy workload work-load and rapid growth due to the increased activity in oil and mining, Earl reports that there are several work plan projects that will result in new power lines and upgraded electrical facilities throughout the Basin. Earl stated, "However, as we move forward with meeting meet-ing the challenges that rising ris-ing operational expenses and growth brings, we have found it necessary to continually analyze ana-lyze the way we do business to insure that we are maximizing the financial resources of the organization. As a result, we have found it prudent to make a change in our line extension, policy that will improve our cash flow without impacting our entire membership by raising rais-ing rates. "Beginning Jan. 1, 2007, we will no longer be offering a free line allowance on applications appli-cations for new service. This change will bring us more in line with trends in the industry indus-try and enable us to continue to serve our members without the necessity of borrowing money or raising rates." Earl reported that applications for new service ser-vice made prior to Jan. 1, 2007, will be handled under the terms of the existing line extension policy, which provides a free line allowance of $750 for residential resi-dential and small commercial applicants. "We appreciate the trust and support of our members," mem-bers," he said, "and pledge to do all that we can to keep electric elec-tric rates as low as possible for ; as long as possible."
