Show B4 Wednesday, November 8, 2006 Vernal Express Extra The Children's Place Remembering veterans This Saturday, Nov. 11, we will celebrate a holiday called Veterans Day. A veteran vet-eran is someone who served in the military during wartime war-time or peacetime. Veterans Day is especially meant as a day to thank living veterans for their service and contributions contri-butions to the security and safety of our country. We celebrate another holiday holi-day honoring veterans in May. It's called Memorial Day. Memorial Day is set aside as a time to honor military mili-tary members who died while serving their country, particularly partic-ularly those who died in battle bat-tle or as the result of wounds the got in battle. Veterans Day used to be called Armistice Day because on Nov. 11, 1918, at 11 a.m., an agreement called the Armistice (which means a truce) was signed ending World War I. After World War II ended, Armistice Day became Veterans Day to honor all veterans, not just those who fought in World War I. A number of other countries coun-tries honor their veterans each year on Nov. 11.
