I Ciller J Vernal Chamber gives Total Citizen and Business off Year awards During the annual meeting of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday, Business of the Year Awards were given to Altitude Cycle, Spidle Sales, the Bureau of Land Management, B92.5 KNEU and the Snow Brothers. Dennis Mott was given the Total Citizen of the Year Award. Mott was born and raised in Vernal. He graduated from Uintah High School where he served as student body president. One year after high school, he served a two-year LDS mission to Veracruz, Mexico. After returning home, he went back to college and graduated from Brigham Young University. After graduation, gradu-ation, he and his wife, Linda, returned home to Vernal and entered into business. He and Linda have been married 35 years and are the parents of five children, Ryan, Monica, Lynise, Briana and Candace and have eight grandchildren. He and his family built the now Tri Cinemas, a reception center, two restaurants and numerous office buildings in the Vernal area. After selling cars for five years at Carlisle Chevrolet and Olds, Mott entered the real estate industry and has spent the past 30 years owning and operating his own real estate company, Coldwell Banker Aspen Brook Realty Inc., which was just recently recognized nationally for an office of its size. Mott has served as the Uintah Board of Realtors president presi-dent in 1991-1992 and has been recognized as Uintah Basin Board of Realtors "Realtor of the Year" for 1987. Since moving back to the Vernal, Mott has been active in the community. He has coached youth baseball and Softball, officiated high school basketball, been a radio voice for high school sports, and covered cov-ered high school sports as an announcer for V-TV. He has served on many boards including includ-ing water boards, canal directors, direc-tors, and the Ashley Valley Sewer Management Board. He was one of the youngest members to join the Vernal Area Chamber. His mentors men-tors were Lilian Henderson and Reta Wetenkamp. He was the first chairman to serve on the Public Relations Committee. He has served five separate terms as a Chamber director, chaired nine different Chamber committees, served as Chamber president in the years 1994 to 1995 and is a member of the Chamber Foundation Board. He has served as a Dinamite for the past 25 years (serving as Dinamite president in 1992) and is currently serving as vice president on the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Committee. In his spare time, he operates a 200 acre farm and ranch and runs 48 head of cattle. Mott said he owes his success suc-cess in Vernal to the Vernal Chamber. "I have given much to the Chamber, but have received three fold in return," he said. Spidle Sales and Service, Inc. was given the Business of the Year in Manufacturing and Industry. The company was founded in Vernal in 1976 by Agee and Karen Spidle. In 1998, Rick Fladeland, who was the general manager at the time, was brought in as a partner. part-ner. Spidle Sales has grown to become one of the premier downhole tool companies, in the world. It maintains an inventory invento-ry of 10,000 tools and bits. The company services both domestic domes-tic and overseas oil field and mining markets. Spidle Sales was sold to loteck Industries in the spring 2005. Floktek is a publicly ided company (FTK), chaired bi Jerry Dumas of Houston, Tefcs. Spidle continues to be a "Vistomer first" service-ori-ente company under the new banner and looks to increase its pfesence through product development and geographical geographi-cal expansion. Agee Spidle remains actively involved in this indeavor and works closely close-ly on a day-to-day basis with the Ffctek management.
